Stat Attack - Top 4

Post by Selby White »

With only 3 points separating the top four teams in the Championship I was wondering who have had the hardest 12 games.

I based the findings on points accumalated by the 12 opponents of each team.

Sheff Utd - 25pts - They have had the easier start with their opponents averaging 1.22 points per game.

WBA - 24pts - Their opponents average 1.26 points per game

Leeds - 23pts - Our opponents have averaged 1.25 points per game

Boro - 22pts - They have had much the hardest start with opponents averaging 1.37pts per game.

Nothing is Black and White but the figures suggest Boro may be in for a good run.

I’d be more interested to see that formula applied to each team’s next 12 games...

Next 11 games will take us to half way so reckon a good reference point.

Ourselves, WBA and Sheff Utd have teams averaging similar amounts to play (1.5, 1.48 & 1.51).

Boro however have the easier run with their 11 opponents averaging 1.36 points.
Boro have played all 3 of us plus Forest so only Sheff Wed in the top 6 to play.

although some people would argue that it should not matter , i'd be interested to know how many key players have been out injured for those other 3 teams??? as i believe our points would be more if we hadn't had so many key players out at the same time. having said that , those stastics are still interesting.

I'm starting to think hitting top spot too early isn't good, every team thats done it seems to slip up shortly after.
Perhaps its the added expectation increasing the pressure.

Another interesting statistic relating to Leeds United’s current league position was tweeted out by @LFZTWEETS who noticed: “Here’s a good one for you.

In the last ten years, nine out of the ten clubs who have been on pole position on Bonfire Night (5th November) have gone on to gain promotion that same season.”
