LufcTalk Hall of Fame Inductee - Eddie Gray MBE
To get Eddies Thread going -
Never in my many years watching football have I seen a player dribble like Eddie watching him play and move with so much grace leaves you hypnotised.
What we need to remember is he played in a era when defenders would chop you off by the knees, skill players really had to be good and believe me you wont see anyone better than Eddie with the ball at his feet.
Hard to imagine how good he would be today with the laws eliminating physical contact, unstoppable I think.
Anyway here is a nice video and my challenge is to anyone watching it, you can't resist watching it twice

I was at the Burnley game in 1970 when Eddie scored that goal. I was in The Gelderd saw only saw it from there but obviously saw it many times afterwards. Eddie would have won more caps with Scotland but for injuries. Still around the club today, LEGEND.

My favourite player and not just Leeds, but all time anywhere. Didn't like the way he was sacked back in the 80's but being the sort of guy he is, luckily for us he didn't hold any grudges and always came back when needed either as caretaker or assistant manager. Leeds through & through and truly deserves to be named as a club legend.
There's light at the end of the tunnel and the future's looking very bright indeed.

So much skill, Eddie was the player football was invented for.
Love the pull back making the Man Utd player look like a novice, must have had nightmares (Willie Morgan I believe).

Was fortunate to meet Eddie a couple of times the first back in 1979 when I travelled to Malta for our return to Europe after the Paris ban where we faced Valetta City in the first round of the Uefa Cup.
After the match there was a reception for the Leeds squad and a few of us travelling fans managed to get tickets through the local supporters club.
Eddie was great and along with John Hawley spent all the meal and after drinks socialising with us fans.
Absolute gentleman and great company.
Not sure what he was drinking but was appeared as sober as a judge but I can't say the same about JH

Brilliant winger, Eddie Gray. Tremendous skill. A lot of people forget he was also a very god left-back as well though, when he dropped back into defence later in his career.

My favourite player of all time. The Man U player was wearing 7, so was it George Best? The Fonz wrote:So much skill, Eddie was the player football was invented for.

Fonz is correct Best was No11 and its Morgan at no7, was our 5-1 victory in 72.Leicester White wrote:My favourite player of all time. The Man U player was wearing 7, so was it George Best? The Fonz wrote:So much skill, Eddie was the player football was invented for.

Leeds United: Sprake, Madeley, Cooper, Bremner, Charlton, Hunter, Lorimer, Clarke, Jones, Giles, Gray
Manchester United: Stepney, O'Neil, Dunne, Burns, James, Sadler, Morgan, Kidd (McIlroy), Charlton, Gowling, Best
Best often played left wing (no11) with Morgan in the team that's why Reaney usually marked him (although not in this match as he was injured and it was Madeley).
They basically had two right wingers but Best was more versatile than Morgan and could play either side.

In normal times, we are regulars at the Player Of The Year awards, and Eddie is always there along with other players from the Revie days.
Too many conversations to recount, but I remember one in particular, which was around 11pm, Eddie had done hundreds of pictures and autographs and was just leaving the Pavilion with his wife.
Us - “Hi Eddie, please could we get a photo”
Eddie - “Of course, no problem”
Us - “Sorry, we know you must be bored of this by now”
Eddie - “You are joking, how can someone get bored of all these lovely people asking for photographs with me”
He spent a good 20 minutes with us that night, whilst his wife waited patiently just a few yards away. I’ll never forget that night.
