That's fair enough, and I can see the logic behind that and mostly agree with it. That being said, I have a feeling that, if McCormack had been named captain, most people who agree with Austin as captain would have equally gone "excellent!", because fans just like him overall (but he ticks very few boxes apart from being popular in a "one-of-the-lads" kind of way ).Nesslin wrote:For me the captain is more of a role model rather than someone who directs the team, we have a manager on the sidelines who will soon bark his orders if he sees something he isn't happy with.
You only have to see the look on Austin face, to notice just how pumped up he is, totally focused on the game. His work rate way above average and isn't afraid to get stuck in. Passion :
Too many players today, like to straighten their hair when being subbed off, because they know the cameras are on them, or smile after making a silly mistake, and moan when a pass wasn't to their feet, instead of running after the ball trying to win it back (few points I noticed in during the Leicester game).

McCormack as captain. Bows head and shakes slowly. Your not wrong with your point though Bogdan. I think Austin is probably the best choice from the players we have. I think we have a few more natural and vocal leaders in the squad but I doubt they are guaranteed a starting spot if B Mac gets the players he wants in. Pearce and Brown instantly come to mind. With so many experienced players in the squad though I don't think it is that important who the captain is.
Follow the cause not the leaders.

Completely see where you're coming from, re: our reaction, especially with the McCormack reference.Bogdan wrote:That's fair enough, and I can see the logic behind that and mostly agree with it. I think he might not be the most vociferous leader about but I certainly can't see him being quiet either or witholding from instructing or encouraging people. As he's said in interviews he'd rather tell someone something in a positive way than berate them, which is a good quality in a leader. We might just differ in the impressions we have got of him from watching him on the pitch. You have seen more of him than me to be fair.
But perhaps, being a fans' favourite is actually an important part of being captain?
Can't agree with TJ that he's reckless though, I've never seen him make a tackle that was actually dangerous or not just a competitive attempt to get the ball, and his discipline record hasn't been too bad since he signed has it? Especially when you take into account how unlucky he was to be red carded vs Brighton.

Austin doesn't really have hair to straighten
TJ, bringing up his red card is a bit harsh as he got sent off for accidentally knocking a guy over with his momentum - of whom, was trying to body check him.
I don't mean to be that guy, but Ashley Barnes did temporarily blind Lees and then attempt the same elbow on Byram so perhaps getting steam rolled was deserved.

He has had more than one red card in his career.SiMamu wrote: TJ, bringing up his red card is a bit harsh as he got sent off for accidentally knocking a guy over with his momentum - of whom, was trying to body check him.

Thank goodness our new captain is level headed enough to go after and seek out retribution against a member of the opposition team!

Just as long as he does it playing for Leeds, it's A-OK!The Johnson wrote:Thank goodness our new captain is level headed enough to go after and seek out retribution against a member of the opposition team!

That last sending off was very harsh indeed, wrong in fact.

Did you see a replay of it? There was no intended retribution there, no arm raised, nothing, they just ran into each other. The Johnson wrote: Thank goodness our new captain is level headed enough to go after and seek out retribution against a member of the opposition team!

Just had a look on here,
http://www.football-league.co.uk/page/D ... 27,00.html
and it confirms that his disciplinary record last year was not bad at all. Only 37 fouls all season, from a central midfielder who played most of the games that season, and what's more, a midfielder with a reputation for being a tough tackler. Only 5 yellow cards and the one red as well. Becchio was only here half the season and he managed as many yellow cards and 150% that number of fouls. Norris, Brown, Varney and Warnock all had worse records. Even Tonge's isn't far off and he's not the sort of player who you'd say 'gets stuck in'.
Doesn't make Austin look reckless to me.
