Sorry, but I'm a bit underwhelmed with this signing. I mean a striker who can't get into a side currently fourth in our division isn't going to be a world beater.

But McD has known the player for a long time and perhaps he's identified Blackstock is what we need in the attacking options. Good idea the 3 month loan - shame we couldn't do similar with Becchio.

Good luck to him anyway.

The rating is relative though, because he seems to have just fallen foul of the managerial merry-go-round at Forest. In January McLeish rated him highly enough to ward off interest and give him an additional four years on his contract. In comes Billy Davies and he can't get a game! That's big the discrepancy between how managers rate the same players is - it rarely means the player is necessarily worse off, managers just have favourites. Let's hope McDermott's judgement is right over Davies's one.

Forest fan in peace...

Blackstock is a decent Championship forward and he'll do well for you. Not a world-beater by any means but perfectly capable of getting 10-15 goals over the course of a full season. Despite being initially bought in by Davies during his first spell it seems he's fallen out of favour and is for some reason behind the likes of Matt Derbyshire and Ishmael Miller in our manager's plans. I'd much rather you'd have taken either of those, or indeed both.

Thanks Danny - not sure what your wish to rid of the players being picked ahead of Blackstock says about Davies ;) but as far as I'm concerned, we've got ourselves a new number nine with the added bonus that he won't be scoring for you guys against us at Christmas this year :D

He's here for 3-months, sounds like he asked for loan move because he wants to play football regularly... that's a pretty healthy attitude to start with (ahem!) so let's see what he has to offer us

Whilst I, and most Forest fans, think Davies is doing a decent job his inability to pick a decent striker is worrying. Over the years we've had to suffer Marcus Tudgay, Dele Adebola, Ishmael Miller, Matt Derbyshire, Darius Henderson, Nathan Tyson, Simon Cox... it's almost enough to make you cry. His remit for forwards appears to be 'if you can run a lot then you'll do for me'. Blackstock had a record of 1 goal in just over 3 matches prior to last season and if he's played regularly, he'll score goals. He'll always put a shift in but don't be expecting him to be any good in the air, despite his height.
