Marius Zaliukas signs up

I'm probably overly cynical now, but I feel a bit underwhelmed by this signing really. I know we're in tough times but it seems as though we feel the need to try and dress up every signing as though it was the best option to take rather than seeing it as a possible desperate fall back - why are we paying pot boilers to stimulate competition for places when we can't make a decent wages bill?
If this is part of a master plan then it all seems to have lost it's way, and me with it....

Just talked to a Hearts fan know and they rate him, was Club captain their and sounds a decent player by what he says. We do need depth at centre back so really cant see the problem having competition for places, keeps everyone on their toes.
