How much would they cost today?

Post by Aces »

Just a bit of fun. Imagine if the great Leeds team players were playing today.

Just how much in today's money would they be worth?

Here's my valuations. At their peak.

Sprake £7m
Reaney £12m
Cooper £15m
Charlton £18m
Hunter £20m
Bremner £25m
Giles £28m
Lorimer £25m
Gray £27m
Clarke £30m
Jones £23m
Madeley £25m

I just might have undervalued some of them, but I don't think I'm far off IMO.

What's everyone else think?
We are Leeds, we have to believe our new players are good enough, encourage and support them and help them grow in to a team to be reckoned with. MoT

If Baines is worth £20m+ then Reaney should be higher.

Gray, Clarke and Lorimer you could probably add £5m to as well.
Not sure Madeley would have commanded as much. Utility players aren't really that useful anymore and if anything being able to play multiple positions without nailing down one is actually a hindrance these days - look at Phil Neville, Phil Jones and James Milner. They're all quality players yet most England fans think they're "rubbish" ... I hate it when people slag off Milner especially. He works so hard for the team, just like Batty did - you only notice when he's not in the side ...

... so, er, maybe about £18m for Madeley anyway :D

Good valid points mate, someone said on here that Madeley played a lot of games each season, admittedly he could play almost anywhere.

Just googled it and Madeley played 536 games for Leeds and 21 times for England, that's some utility player.

Undervalued on today's obscene prices

Bremner & Giles would certainly be worth more

Robhino cost Man city £37.5 million pounds, so you make a valid point.

Just checked and it says Robhino was a striker, I thought he was an attacking midfielder, which is what I would say Jonny Giles was, because we were always attacking, lol.

When Ron Webster, Paul Reaney, Chris Lawler, and Mick Mills were all available, Madeley was picked for the crucial WC qualifier v Poland. You've obviously not read the Paul Madeley thread in this Forum, Rigger?

I think that because he could play many positions at the top, top level, Madeley deserves that pricetag, but I think Bremner is well underrated, probably one of Europe's premium midfield players, probably 80 million at his peak, and if Rooney is valued at 50 million, Clarke is equal to him in international and league terms. Reaney is undervalued, but Jones and Gray are probably over-valued.
