LUST confirm supporters investment plans

Post by Lee »

So Gary Cooper (BIG) been on Radio Leeds tonight talking about a proposed investment scheme to allow the fans to buy into the club and has tweeted something very interesting.

LUFC Trust ‏@lufctrust 3h
The Trust can confirm a matched funding offer has been made for investment. If supporters invest £2m + £2m = £4m total #lufc #twitterwhites

Now clearly this is very early days but I for one am very interested in some form of investment but a few questions do spring to mind.

Who's the financial backer
Are all shares equal
Will the current owners even be willing to sell us shares
Wouldnt a share in ER be a safer bet rather than the club itself.

It appears to be a lot of conjecture at the moment but as is usually the case with Leeds there appears to be more questions than answers
July 26th 2013. The day Leeds United rid themselves of an odious git.

Isn't this what Swansea have done where the fans own a 20% share of the club ?

As Lee says, a lot of questions would need to be answered but I would definitely be interested in this.

Is this where LUST end up representing (fan) share holders in the boardroom? Given that fans don't invest to make money - we invest either to save the club (is that what happened at Swansea?) or to influence events I'm assuming this is about power (influence).

As a season ticket holder I consider myself an investor in the saving the club sense already - anyone who buys a ticket is - and £2 million from fans won't make a big difference (will it?).

So do I want to invest in putting LUST on the board?

As others have said, more info required.

Having re read the tweet I get the impression this would be specifically for LUST members and as Mellor suggests that would be akin to giving LUST a voice. Watch this space I guess.

Yeah, done a bit of research and realise this isnt new at all -the following article came out early October and confirms it is not a general opportunity for fans to invest but an idea to get LUST as a shareholder to wield influence.

Interesting, and as others have said, we need to know more details.

I personally would be interested but to be honest, the season ticket and away matches take the bulk of my available income.

Where is this "matching money" coming from and why haven't they just invested anyway?
