Because he won't be playing CL football.

The hierarchy of clubs definitely influences who's picked for England squads, and yet further, the actual team.
There's no way the likes of Smalling, Jones and Wes Brown would've won as many caps playing for a club outside the top four.
Phil Neville - another versatile player - made the same move in 2005 and his England career tailed off to nothing over the next eighteen months.

I'm not saying Delph isn't any good - I think he's an ideal squad member at a tournament because he's used to being on the bench and can play all over the park - but I'm sure he'll be less likely to be in the frame now he's left the spotlight of the Champions League.
we'll see mate, I was thinking you were meaning that Everton players get less chance with England ;)

I actually think Southgate sees through the big club thing more than most because he himself got capped whilst at Palace, Villa and Boro.
Okay, that's a bit harsh on Villa, but you know what I mean.

If he's picking players from Bournemouth he can't be too biased about it all, can he ?

Wait, I'm contradicting myself here ;)

Everton already provide the England goalkeeper and a centre-back.
I once played against Don Revie.

I know, John.
But midfield is pretty competitive.

And also England's weakest area, ironically.

Lots leave and never reach the standard we as fans expect they will, you just never know with young players.
Only played 33 games in 3 seasons.

Still not doing too bad he'll be playing Prem this season.

And at the time quite a few were saying we had let a player go on the cheap that would be worth millions in the future. Something we hear often but doesn't always happen.

Do we have a clause that gets us any of the cash ?
