Jimmy took over the club back in 1974 after the Clough debacle. Guided us to the now infamous 1975 European Cup Final. It was a well known fact that Jimmy was a true gentleman & was also very knowledgeable about the game. Last time I saw him was at the funeral of Jimmy Sirrell.

Sad, sad day

Nice idea for a separate thread for a man who managed us for nearly four years.
About the time I started going to games too.

RIP, Jimmy.

Terrible news.

Had a tough job on his hands breaking up Revie's team.

The board at the time showed little respect for him.

RIP Jimmy. Thanks for the memories and getting the club to a European final only to be denied by a crooked referee. Sadly like a lot of us we are getting older and there will be more threads like this. Always enjoyed your summaries on the radio.

Really sad news. He is loved here in Blackpool for obvious reasons. Always had positive things to say about Leeds. Just a really really nice guy and a true humble gentleman. His association with Leeds will always be remembered for that 1975 cup final where we really was playing against 14 men.

Nice comment from Eddie Gray:-

Eddie Gray - 'His manner at Leeds was terrific'

Eddie Gray, who played in the 1975 European Cup under Armfield for Leeds, told the Press Association: "Jimmy steadied the ship at Leeds when Brian Clough left.

"It was a difficult time for the club anyway with Don Revie having left and Brian coming in and things not going too well. "It wasn't an easy time for Jimmy to come in because the team were getting that bit older as well, but his manner, the way he conducted himself in and around the club was terrific.

"And I liked Jimmy a lot as a person, that's the most important thing. I liked him very much and always got on very well with him."

He was a wonderful broadcaster on the radio and I loved listening to his match comments and summaries.

RIP Jimmy.

Sad to hear this news.
Thanks Jimmy for steadying the ship post Cloughie and thanks for getting us to Paris.
The journey to get there was memorable, even though we were cruelly robbed at the end.
A true gent & very knowledgable football man.
RIP Jimmy.
