FA confirm 2 match suspension for Berardi after his 2nd red card of the season. He will miss the Sheffield United & Bristol City games.

Could it be some players don’t fancy games against tough opposition and are protecting their reputations by making themselves unavailable?

Not quite the same thing, but Carlton Palmer once said on Soccer AM that he used to time his yellow cards to get suspended for the Boxing Day match, so he could enjoy his Christmas Day...
