Long wait - sum up emotions? Special to play Liverpool?

It’s a very special game. Full of different scenarios to last season.

Update on your contract situation

I will be working the next season at Leeds United.

Phillips with England - did he give you his shirt?

I was very happy he was able to make his debut so quickly with England.

New signings - what can you tell us? Happy with squad?

Two players who have the correct level to play in the PL. If there’s going to be any new signings we will let you know in due time.

What emotions will you feel going out as a PL manager?

The club, the fans, the players, they all deserve to be playing in the Premier League.

What threats do Liverpool pose?

A just champion with a consistent style of play. Without a doubt one of the best teams in the world.

Aims for this season?

It’s very difficult to predict results.

Team news - injuries?

All the players are available to play.

Forshaw?

Adam Forshaw is out. He’s a separate case.

Rodrigo and Koch up to fitness required?

They are in very good physical condition.

Details you still need to sort on your contract?

Everything has been sorted and it’s definite I will be here next season.

Changes to your coaching staff?

No, only Corberan.

The biggest test of your ability the PL?

It’s the best league in the world and it requires you to be at the highest level.

The biggest test of your ability the PL?

It’s the best league in the world and it requires you to be at the highest level.

Why Rodrigo? What do you like about him?

He’s a very known player, he has extensive track record. He’s also a starter for an important nation in Europe. That defines him as a player.

How to fill White gap?

The spot on the right of defence in the back four does not require adaptation.

What weaknesses do Liverpool have? Anything you feel you can exploit from your analysis?

I reiterate that they are one of the best teams in the world. They have a defined system with very good players.

Are Leeds' young players such as Davis, McCalmont, etc best served with loan moves away?

That’s not a decision that we’ve taken at the moment.

How difficult will it be to bridge the gap?

It’s difficult to assimilate how they are going to adjust to the PRemier LEague. We prepared for this, but we need to show it on the pitch.

Does it say a lot about your confidence in the players you are keeping them?

They have been forming a group for some time and they have maintained the players they feel can play at a higher level.

Change your tactics for PL?

To begin with we will try to play the same way.

Klopp - manager you look up to?

With the work Klopp has done everywhere, that has given him the chance to shine everywhere. Anything I added would be repeating the praise he has already rightly received.

Heavy metal football they play - are you a fan?

I have not got much culture in music so I wouldn’t know.

Pleased to change people's perceptions of Leeds?

I didn’t know what people thought of Leeds prior and I don’t know now.

Premier League

I am very happy to compete in a league of such stature.

Short period between seasons helpful?

It’s very difficult to predict what’s going to happen when there is a change in league and change in quality.

How important the players stick to the way they play when the going gets tough?

One of the difficulties we will face this season and we have to show we can continue to play the way we want.

What is success this season?

I don’t like to predict so far into the future.

Ever any doubts he would not sign that new contract?

Like in every negotiation, nothing is done until it’s done.

Any time for holidays?

I haven’t had any free time for a holiday.

What does Anfield mean to you?

We are going to play at Anfield, but it is only Anfield if it is full.

How much progress has been made these past two seasons?

I don’t share the opinion I have changed the structure of the team. When I arrived they had the necessary structure to work at a high level. This is in reference to logistics, the academy, health and institution. Maintenance of the institution. All the areas at the club were running how they should.

Where is last year's title ranked in his achievements?

It’s very difficult to evaluate as I haven’t won loads and when I did it was a long time ago.

Why has it taken so long to sort the contract?

There is nothing of importance. I have worked at 100 per cent since the celebrations finished.

Nervous before first game of the season?

I always get nervous prior to playing. I worry when I am not scared or nervous.

Reading this has reminded me how proud I am to have such a humble man as our manager, and also made me suddenly realise we're actually in the Premier League, playing Liverpool, one of the best sides in the world at the moment, on Saturday. Genuinely making me grin.

Actually, MB answered: "It's a truly special game, full of nuances that make it different."

I mention it, because there was the funny interaction between him and the translator, MB asked why he said "last season", when he never said anything about the last season :D

Team news

We think Cooper will be ready to play the game on Saturday. There is no new injuries from the last few days. Forshaw is taking part in collective training today apart from actually playing football. Next week his rehabilitation will continue.

Liverpool praise - how much confidence from that? Fulham expectations?

Every game is a new story. We tried to correct the things we did badly against Liverpool. We will try to maintain all the good things also.

Casilla captain last night - lots of debate - explain why?

I interpreted the feelings of his team-mates.

Is it appropriate though?

His team-mates think he deserved to be the captain and we have to listen to those messages. The players see in their captain someone they feel can represent them.

Casilla - can you understand why the fans are upset?

I respect the thoughts of any person. After that, opinions can be argued. Surely those who judge Kiko ignore a lot of the things his team-mates see in him. You are saying I should have contemplated whether to make Kiko captain? Either I take the opinion of the fans or the players. I can’t deny the captain represents his team-mates and the club. That means I can’t limit myself to what the players’ wishes were. What is also important you guys may not know is what percentage of these fans actually didn’t want Kiko as captain because the opinion of the masses should always be heard, but I don’t know if you know what percentage of the fans is. Of course, we value the conduct of Kiko, which only we can judge because we’re part of the group. When you are subjected to what other people judge you for, what other people think, it doesn’t matter what we think, we have to accept the decision of the authorities. If there’s correlation between what the fans, team-mates and authorities think, surely the public won’t have all the information his team-mates have.

Fulham have strengthened - stronger than June match?

I don’t know right now. The season is very atypical and the adaptation of the new players is going to take a while, which is the same for everybody. As a result I don’t know whether it’s going to be the same Fulham or whether any of the new players will play on Saturday.

Transfers - De Paul, Gvardiol - interest?

I don’t like to talk about speculation as a lot of things can happen. I would rather talk about players after they have arrived and not beforehand.

When or how do you know if a player is ready for your team?

Depending on his performances in training.

What was it about Pascal that convinced you he could play in midfield?

At one point during last season he had incredible physical performance. He technically is a very complete player. When he put together his technical skills with tactical acumen and added physical prep he needed he became a very valuable player.

Cooper - how much influence does he have in the dressing room on culture and discipline?

He’s a natural leader. He’s very well respected by all his team-mates without exception. The captain has the obligation to bring everyone together. Although he is closer to some players, like all human beings who have preferences, the captain should care about everyone and integrate everyone. He’s a leader of this nature. Like Ayling, like Dallas of similar ilk.

Any loan moves away for the young players?

All the players who won’t have a chance in the first team, we will try to find them loans.

Did your players surpass your expectations at Liverpool? Did they cope better with the PL than you thought they would?

No. I think that the team could have elevated their level further on certain occasions.

Have the players been elevated in training this week following how well they did at Anfield?

A positive performance always gives a certain amount of optimism and a defeat generates sadness. This week the two of those things combined.

Have you watched the new series of Take Us Home? What did you think of it?

No I haven’t had the opportunity to watch it.

Into the last three weeks of the window - perception of your squad for this season?

There are a lot of indicators and I prefer to express myself when signings have been completed.

Bamford scored - one goal before in the PL - has he shown he can be a success in the PL?

I think he has the required level to play in the PL. You have to show these things rather than declare them.

Captaincy - when they're not available - do the players vote on a stand-in?

I interpret what the team-mates think.

Rodrigo - when a player returns to PL - does it take time to bed in?

He is already ready.

Rodrigo - showed lots of energy last night - attributes that pleased you?

I agree with your analysis of his performance.

[Edged him closer to starting?]

He won’t start on Saturday, but he’s in a good condition to start if we want him to.

Andrés Clavijo. Is from Colombia, graduated in Sports Sciences in England, previously worked at Football Radar and was a video analyst for the QPR (U18). He also does the same job for the Leeds first team.

Bielsa often recruits some young pros, whether interns whether fellows. Many times paying from his own pocket. While he was in Chile, many people asked him for job or just an interview off of media. One of the most famous cases was Diego Reyes, a chilean who nowadays is his assistant in Leeds. Diego, aged 26 in that time (2008) and being a sport science graduated and coursing a degree for coach, was applying for a scholarship in France so he requested to Bielsa via letter to answer some questions about the youth and academy football system in France. The fact is Diego never expected a response, but Bielsa called him back and after some 1 or 2 hours of talk about football, he recruited him as an intern, editing training videos and making rival analysis files. In fact, after his Chile national team departure, Bielsa asked Diego to going along Athletic Bilbao as a official video analyst in his staff, then in Marseille as an assistant in training, same in Lille, until now in Leeds as assistant coach. As you can see, to Diego has been a long trip since then, exactly 12 years. Few people knows who is Diego here in Chile, but for me is a promising coach for someday
