Re: Smiths sending off
One of the reasons I said I thought him unlucky is because if a smaller player had made the same challenge, even someone Gerrard's size, it wouldn't have been half as bad. Trouble is Smith weighs twice what a smaller player does so to have him clattering into your head at speed is, even with his backside, is probably worse than a small player flying in with arms raised.

Re: Smiths sending off
When I saw the Smith incident (on TV replay) it looked clumsy and you could see why he got a red card. The Gerrard incident was not clumsy it was pre-meditated and he should have got red. However, I don't think it is a Leeds/Liverpool
issue. I think it is the fact that Smith Is a nobody and Gerrard is England captain. The referees found it easy to make the decisions they made.

I once played against Don Revie.

Re: Smiths sending off
Appeal has been turned down, Smith has a three match ban.
Was blatantly obvious it would happen, BMD probably purposely did it so we don't play him.

And Gerrard is an England international and captain.Sheepy wrote:The difference is Gerrard plays Liverpool, Smith plays for Leeds.

I must be alone on this one, but was it really that bad? My first thought when it happened was disbelief he was going to get booked let alone sent off!
Those challenges seem to happen every match, am I missing something?
I have not seen the incident again though, so seriously, did I miss something?

As mentioned before Sheepy, I think it was because of the timing, he would have had time to stop, pull up his socks and fluff another header before he made the actual contact. It just looked intentional to me.Sheepy wrote:I must be alone on this one, but was it really that bad? My first thought when it happened was disbelief he was going to get booked let alone sent off!

Oh well, time for Lewis Walters to make a sensational goalscoring debut and have the scouting staff at Norwich City drooling!
Or Varney gets recalled (and no drooling at Norwich).

I actually think that if Kebe and Stewart get their game going Varney might not be a bad option.Sheepy wrote:Oh well, time for Lewis Walters to make a sensational goalscoring debut and have the scouting staff at Norwich City drooling!

credit where its due, Varney is good in the air and puts in a shift, he's probably a bit hard done to really.

Was never gonna be rescinded in a month of Sundays!
Smith was an idiot to make such a challenge in today's mamby pamby climate.
Wendies' players reactions etc didn't help, but he was still a fool.
