Re: Smiths sending off
No way will it be rescinded. I personally think he was unlucky to get a red for it, but we've appealed far far more innocuous reds before and been waved away.

Re: Smiths sending off
As a ref I would have sent him off for sure. Late and contact with opponents head. That is never going to be rescinded by the F.A.

If Smith had given him a tender kiss on the cheek I still would not expect the FA to rescind it.
Re: Smiths sending off
Wasted appeal IMO. He clattered him in the head.

The difference is Gerrard plays Liverpool, Smith plays for Leeds.
Re: Smiths sending off
By the letter of the law, he definitely had to go, regardless of other teams, players and referees. I'm surprised at people disputing it, I'm more surprised at the club appealing it.
Re: Smiths sending off
Come on, Sheepy, mate, not the old anti-Leeds conspiracy again.
And Pecky, it was worse than that one, there was less delay and less height difference in Gerrad's jump, compared to the Stoke player's one. Plus, he inflicted the bulk of the damage with his backside, not an elbow (as much as it was tucked in by Smith). Not that comparing the judgement of two referees at two different levels has much relevance anyway, they're only consistent in being inconsistent.

And by the way, from the back of the Leeds end, I thought it was harmless immediately after. But the guy next to me said "he'll walk for this one", and seeing replays, I can have no complains about it.
