Battle of the Centenary Leeds United books!

Post by Deebo »

As many of you know, I'm an obsessive collector of all things Leeds United in print, most specifically books.

I have been watching with interest the growing number of books coming out in our centenary year. Here are the four titles I am eagerly anticipating...

100 Years of Leeds United: 1919-2019
http://www.lufctalk.com/resources/leeds ... 9-624.html
Daniel Chapman
2019
Icon Books Ltd
978-1785784309 [ISBN]

Also known as MoscowWhite, The Squareball's Daniel Chapman is a engaging and knowledgeable writer on all things Leeds. He injects humor and insight into everything he writes and this should be a rollicking read.

From the publishers: "Published to coincide with the club’s centenary celebrations, 100 Years of Leeds United tells the story of a one-club city and its tumultuous relationship with its football team. Since its foundation in 1919, Leeds United Football Club has seen more ups and downs than most, rising to global fame through an inimitable and uncompromising style in the 70s, clinching the last Division One title of the pre-Sky Sports era in 1992, before becoming the epitome of financial mismanagement at the start of the 21st century. Despite this demise, United remains one of the best supported – and most divisive – clubs in football, with supporters’ clubs dotted across the globe. In 100 Years of Leeds United, Chapman delves deep into the archives to discover the lesser-known episodes, providing fresh context to the folkloric tales that have shaped the club we know today, painting the definitive picture of the West Yorkshire giants."

Robert Endeacott ; Andrew Varley
2019
Amberley Court Associates

With images from Andrew Varley's extensive collection and words from LUFCtalk's very own Robert Endeacott, this book will weigh in at over 4kg and be the one book to rule them all! If you pre-order from https://www.aca-creative.co.uk/product/ ... nary-book/ (like I did, you get your name in the book too!)

From publishers: "The club are delighted to announce that as part of the Centenary celebrations, a wonderful 400-page book will be produced to mark our 100-year history. From our beginnings in 1919 right through to the current season, the hardback book is a mouth watering insight into our beloved club. Written by lifelong fan Robert Endeacott, the book chronologically covers the club’s history. The significant seasons, key players, officials and legends. The memorable matches, the controversies, the highs and the lows of major LUFC events. This superb book is produced by Leeds fans for Leeds fans. The unique pictures are compiled by club photographer, Andrew Varley, including many never-published-before images."

Rob Bagchi
2019
Vision Sports Publishing
9781909534841 [ISBN]

You may remember Rob from his first book "The Unforgiven" that chronicled the Revie era. It is a must have for your collection. This promises to be well written and insightful as well.

"In The Biography of Leeds United, Telegraph journalist and lifelong fan Rob Bagchi writes the story of this famous club and chronicles a century of history that will educate, entertain and inform both old and new supporters. Packed with fresh stories about and from former players, managers, and the money men, as well as the fans, this book is an affectionate and insightful portrait of a football club like no other, 'Super Leeds'." -- From publishers.

From legendary fan, Gary Edwards, who is has been an ever-present at every Leeds game since 1968! This is his sixth book.
