3 favourite non-Leeds players

Post by NottinghamWhite »

Who are your top three British players who never donned the white shirt. Mine are :-

Rodney Marsh a great player & character. Loved him as a presenter as well. I most remember him during his time at QPR.

Denis Law I know but he was a great player & who can forget his back heel goal to send his old club down :D

Jimmy Greaves simply the best goal poacher I’ve ever seen. Great player for Spurs & England. Loved Saint & Greavsie probably the best sports show ever,

Those are my three though I’m sure I’ve forgotten other favourites :D

1. Diego Maradona
Greatest player of all-time and I feel privileged to have been around to enjoy/hate/marvel at him.
Pele, Messi, Ronaldo, Cruiff etc were all surrounded by excellent players in great teams but he dragged Napoli to two Scudetti and a very average Argentina to a World Cup, while being kicked up the arse at every turn with very little protection from the ref's and on terrible pitches a lot of the time.
Yes, he's a nutter but show me a better player ?

2. Paolo Maldini
Best defender I have ever seen and a massive reason why we should celebrate all positions more than just the attackers. He was the best player on the planet for about seven or eight years, consistently reaching heights untouched by mere mortals.
I saw him play at the San Siro too :)

=3.
John Robertson
Gaetano Scirea
Michel Platini
Stuart Pearce
Kevin Keegan
Chris Waddle
Neville Southall
Trifon Ivanov
Stig Tofting

I could go on ..

British players?

Best, Marsh, Bowles, Bell, Francis (G and T), Brooking, Hoddle and Waddle but only on a football pitch, Gazza for that goal against Scotland and much more, Matt Le Tiss, um... Luxury players some of them apparently. Footballing demi-gods, fallible as but on their day pure delight. Can I pick 3? No. ;)

None British...

Pele probably the GOAT
Eusebio
Rivellino
Beckenbauer ( can’t forgive him for 1975 though )
Cruyff
Muller
Messi
Maradona
Ronaldo ( can’t stand him but have to admire his skill )

I’ve seen Pele play live a couple of times & he really was the complete footballer in my opinion. I’ve asked many of The Revie boys who was the best player they ever played against & without hesitation each & every one said Bobby Charlton.
