Last season after 23 games we were top with 48 points - 10 points ahead off Sheff Utd 15 points ahead of Villa.

Good point - there will be more twists & turns than a twisty turny thing making a guest appearance on a 1980's Cilla Black reunion show!

Yes if we blip again there will be clubs that finish strongly that would come past us, same goes for West Brom or anyone else.
Think anyone within 10 to 12 points are a danger, I agree but really can't see anyone 15pts behind passing us in the table (Villa didn't despite our poor form, finished well below us despite the freebie goal we gave them).

Still see this as a 3 horse race for 2 places with West Brom & Fulham plus ourselves, anything can happen.
Don't expect anyone to do a Sheff Utd this time, but as they say its a funny old game.

Watched Sheff U at Molineux yesterday. Similar team to last year but totally outplayed Wolves for 60 mins. The gap between Leeds and mid table in the Prem may not be that great at the moment

Your right however Sheff Utd finished 6 points ahead of us! So they took 16 more points than us in the second half of the season - really impressive. The one team I always felt could rival us, Fulham & WBA was Cardiff. Warnock dogs of War in Jan & Feb. Harris’s sides faired well in winter. Got a small EW bet on them @ 50/1! You can now get 200’s !

Last years table at this stage
Team P W D L F A GD Pts
1 Norwich 20 12 4 4 35 22 +13 40
2 Leeds 20 11 6 3 33 17 +16 39
3 Middlesbrough 20 9 8 3 22 13 +9 35
4 West Brom 19 10 4 5 41 27 +14 34
5 Nottm Forest 20 8 10 2 32 21 +11 34
6 Sheff Utd 20 10 4 6 32 24 +8 34
7 Derby 20 10 4 6 30 24 +6 34
8 Aston Villa 20 8 7 5 39 30 +9 31
9 Birmingham 20 7 9 4 30 24 +6 30
10 Blackburn 20 7 8 5 26 30 -4 29

Current table
Team P W D L F A GD Pts
1 Leeds Utd 20 13 4 3 30 10 +20 43
2 West Bromwich 19 12 6 1 36 19 +17 42
3 Fulham 20 10 5 5 32 21 +11 35
4 Bristol City 20 9 8 3 33 28 +5 35
5 Nottm Forest 19 9 6 4 26 16 +10 33
6 Sheffield Wed 20 9 5 6 28 19 +9 32
7 Preston 20 9 4 7 31 25 +6 31
8 Cardiff City 20 8 7 5 30 27 +3 31
9 Brentford 20 9 3 8 30 16 +14 30
10 Swansea City 19 8 6 5 24 20 +4 30

So last year we were 5 pts ahead of Derby and 8 points ahead of Villa, in 8th. This year we are 8 points ahead of 3rd place. Whilst we can't afford to be lax it does look a lot better than last season. We are 4pts on last season but finished in 3rd spot 6pts behind 2nd so also need a better second half of the season. This time last year we were half way through the 7 game winning streak, but then only got 7 points from the 7 games after then. Many people look at the final 4 games which netted a single point from "that villa game" but you could say our January slump added the pressure initially.

Our 30th game is the Wigan game on 1st Feb - will we still be riding high, or suffered a slump again? To put it in perspective we were on 57pt's as were Norwich in 1st and Sh.U in 3rd on 54. However this year either we need to last longer to whether the end of season slow down or carry on firing on all cylinders.

4 games later and Leeds still hold an 8 point advantage over third.
With 3 points seperating 3rd and 8th, it's important that Leeds at least maintain a gap while the chasing pack jostle for position.
With only two of the current top 8 remaining to play after Feb, the next two months will be clutch.

Last season Boxing Day was the end of our 7 match winning streak and the start of the wobble. As stated earlier in the thread Sheffield U went from 10 points behind to 6 points in front, so think it's too easy to be complacent. Blackburn in 9th have taken the same amount of points over the last 8 game as WBA, and more than us.

What really matters is how we perform over the next 10 games - if we manage a decent run then we'll firm our grip on the auto spots and be able to weather a strong run from some a team below. Many team will falter and whilst if we do we could still be "in the mix" the closer any third team gets the likelihood we run the risk of being unseated by a late season wobble.

Last season game 25-34 were W4D1L5 - 1.3PPG, aiming for 2PPG is what we need.

Didn't we beat Blackburn on Boxing Day? I think the bad run started slightly after, New Years Day at Forest springs to mind.
