Yorkshire rivals

Post by NottinghamWhite »

Age old question who’s our biggest rivalry with these days ? Historically it’s always been Bradford City but we hardly play them these days.

Missed out Farsley Celtic, mate :D

I'm not completely joking actually, when we were in L1 I think they were in the top Conference league and one of their coaches was goading me that they'd be above us soon! Worse than that for me, this fella was an ex-LU youth coach. I'd never heard of him but he genuinely was.

Sheff Utd for me, it goes back to my school days when a Lad from Sheffield who was Blunts fan moved to this area.
Actually became one of my best school mates but we didn't let that get in the way of football rivalry.

Growing up in North Yorkshire there were several Boro fans at our school, but the bulk were Leeds fans. Never really felt anything about Boro & definitely not Huddersfield Town.

Blunts.

Wednesday always seemed a decent lot to me, probably because they're a bigger club than their cross-town rivals and second only to us in the county in that sense.

When I saw this thread and that it had been started by NW, I thought 'what's the point, it's Lancashire'. In the football context it has to be the two Sheffield Clubs.

Other traditional derby games were/are:

Bradford City v Bradford Park Avenue
Sheffield Wed v Sheffield Utd
Huddersfield Town v Halifax Town
Farsley Celtic v Yorkshire Amateur
I once played against Don Revie.
