Not in 1972, back in the 70s our rivalry with Millwall didn't exist, started in the 80s.Leicester White wrote:I guess as a Millwall fan, Tommy Steele would have had a close call between Leeds and Arsenal for who he wanted to win!
In fact Millwall in the main hated all the London Clubs and I can recall two occasions in the 70s and heard of others where a fair few came along to support Leeds.
Wimbledon replay (played at Palace) got tasty afterwards cos some Chelsea turned up to have a go at any Leeds fans. It ended up Millwall v Chelsea.
My 2nd experience was also Chelsea late 70s where a few Millwall came along deliberately to wind up the locals.
All changed in the 80s when we got relegated and became rivals.

Got me thinking to 1985 Luton Town v Millwall & the rioting that night. It was a cup replay & hell broke out. Am pretty sure it was a televised game as well .
Winner of the Europa League
Re: Nostalgia
I was also there in 1973 and that time my ticket did come from Leeds, someone I worked with in Ipswich had a relative in Leeds and they (somehow) got me a ticket.NottinghamWhite wrote:
In 1973 Frankie Vaughan led the community singing. I remember the 78 final wasn’t it Roger Osborne who bagged the winner ? Arsenal were a decent side & had one of my favourite none Leeds players playing that day in Malcolm MacDonald ( I was at Wembley in 1975 when he scored 5 goals against Cyprus ) or Super Mac as he was better known. You also had Paul Marinier who I had watched a few times for Plymouth Argyle as I was living in Torbay in those days.
It was Roger Osborne that scored in 1978 and we hit the woodwork three times(John Wark twice and Paul Mariner).
Allan Hunter and Kevin Beattie kept MacDonald very much under control.
We were huge outsiders but we battered Arsenal on the day.

1973 was an awful game to watch as a Leeds fan. Jim Montgomery had the game of his life. Hated Bob Stokoe from that day on. Wherever you go if you get talking to a Mackem the first thing they talk about is the 73 final.Paul ITFC wrote:

Bit of football trivia - Who was Millwall manager that night, later in his career became Leeds boss ?NottinghamWhite wrote:Got me thinking to 1985 Luton Town v Millwall & the rioting that night. It was a cup replay & hell broke out. Am pretty sure it was a televised game as well .

Kevin Beattie, what a player. Should have been a regular in the England team.Paul ITFC wrote:I was also there in 1973 and that time my ticket did come from Leeds, someone I worked with in Ipswich had a relative in Leeds and they (somehow) got me a ticket.NottinghamWhite wrote:

My daughter had her graduation at the stadium of light, as Mrs BB is disabled we were escorted to our seats by a nice chap who couldn’t have been more helpful. We got talking, I mentioned I was Leeds and he deliberately took us passed all the Wembley photos from that yearNottinghamWhite wrote:1973 was an awful game to watch as a Leeds fan. The Beat was the best all round footballer that I ever saw and ever will see,he had everything.
He had pace, power, great in the air, great in the tackle, rocket shot, could pass.
I have a picture of him at Wembley 1978 as the avatar on the ITFC Forum that I am on.
He only played 9 times for England but on ability it should have been 109, his career was ravaged by injury and he was only 27 when he played his last game for Ipswich breaking his arm in the 1981 F.A. Cup Semi Final.
As you probably know the great man passed away in September 2018,tragic.
