The player of the year was held just after the last game. For the first time it was interactive and Jermaine Beckford was the co presenter. The full proceedings are available on LUTV. Pablo Hernandez won the main award. This was the third successive season he has won it. He may not have had as many minutes under his belt as others this season but he made a telling contribution. His goal v Swansea was the pivotal moment for me in the season it made the last 3 games easier for us although I may have work to convince you that was the case v Barnsley.

The players player of the season went to Stuart Dallas preventing Hernandez from 3 consecutive clean sweeps. Dallas has often been a player whose contribution has gone unappreciated although this season his contribution has been more noticed. This is the second time he has won this award, which is probably held in greater esteem as the main award as it is voted for by a player’s peers.

The young player of the year went to Ben White, no one can dispute that. Bielsa has Improved him beyond his wildest dream. Bielsa’ s training demands shook him to the core and apparently he threw up after the first murder ball, but he did the work and got the reward.

The academy POTY went to Robbie Gotts the player that Bielsa apologised to because of hide 35 appearances on the bench without coming on. He was awarded with a debut Arsenal. There is a rumour he will go on loan to Huddersfield next season, I hope monotone as no player loaned out by Bielsa has come back to play in the first team.

There was a Bobby Collins award for an unsung hero. That went to Olivia Smart. Olivia plays for Leeds ladies she also works for the NHS. She often comes and trains for Leeds after a 12 hour shift. She is a nurse who works in the organ transplant department. Her teammates describe her as the Alioski of the ladies team as she is the team joker. She is often training with Leeds when she gets a call to go into work and leaves telling her team mates she has to go and save lives. Her teammates say that normally happens when they are about to play murder ball. That was interesting as it shows that the Bielsa philosophy not only filters down to the male youth teams but also to the ladies team.
