Re: Unsung Heroes
Under Howard Wilkinson i would say Peter Haddock or Andy Williams. Peter had a lot of injuries but when he played especially during the 1989/1990 season he was outstanding and kept Noel Blake out of the team, Andy when called upon (Hendrie injured etc) always did a job, not the best player but solid when he was on the field.
Owners come and go but Leeds United will be there forever, for the fans - keep Marching on Together.
Re: Unsung Heroes
Michael Doyle. Made 50something appearances in 2009/10 but almost seems forgotten about when we talk about the side that gained promotion.

Think he started more league matches that season (42 if my memory workd) than any other player.lufctrav wrote:Michael Doyle. Made 50something appearances in 2009/10 but almost seems forgotten about when we talk about the side that gained promotion.

Another worthy of a mention from the Revie era that was here from 64 to 71, on the fringes but did a job when called is Rod Belfit.
Rod actually played a major role in getting us to the final of the Inter Cities Fairs Cup in 1967. He scored a gat-trick in the Semi final 4-2 victory over Kilmarnock.

Re: Unsung Heroes
Perhaps not as unsung as some but for playing in all outfield positions and yet not being in the 'classic' Revie line up how about Paul Madeley

When you retire, you switch bosses - from the one that hired you, to the one that married you.

Oh good, another reason for me to post.
Rod Belfitt came to Ipswich in November 1971 and became very popular in is quite short time with us
He left for Everton in October 1972 having scored 16 goals in 46 games and there was a bit of an outcry when we let him go because he went in a deal that brought the then relatively unheard of David Johnson to us.
It turned out that Bobby Robson did know what he was doing because Jonty was great for us and got England caps.

I'd agree with Andy Hughes and Carl Shutt. Both played great supporting roles and always contributed when called upon.rigger wrote:Andy Hughes
Carl Shutt (till that goal)
How about Ray Wallace for keeping his brother company ?

Re: Unsung Heroes
I remember Belfitt playing for Leeds he was a decent player but behind Clarke & Jones in the pecking order. Never a prolific goal scorer but a good squad player. He was substitute in the 1968 League Cup final against Arsenal. Another player from that era that was only a squad player was Terry Hibbitt who left the club at the same time as Rod. Terry died in 1994 aged just 46.
