Top stats! The 200 Club grows

Post by Deebo »

The Yorkshire Pirlo passed a significant milestone a couple of weeks ago as he notched up his 200th appearance in all comps.

Interestingly, Kalvin Philips is now the THIRD current player to hit the milestone THIS SEASON! Stuart Dallas and Liam Cooper being the others. The last player to hit this milestone previously was Luciano Becchio, and Johny Howson just before that.

You would have to go back to May 2004 vs Chelsea when we last had three players with 200+ appearances in the same game: Smith (228), Radebe (259) Harte (288) and Kelly (417). Thanks to @JRCooper26 on Twitter for this!

This speaks volumes about the stability we finally have at the club after all those dreadful years in the wilderness. I'm still fuming at the breakup of our promotion winning squad with Bates at the helm. Snoddgrass just missed out on hitting 200 games for us as he was also sold by the Bearded Menace.

The 200 Club as we have called it is located here on the resources section of the site: http://www.lufctalk.com/stats/club-200/

Wonder where Kalvin will finish on that list when his career is over ?

Top 20 maybe ?
Even Top 10 possibly ?

Pretty unlikely they will get into the top 10 as it is very different these days. Players are not as loyal these days plus then most players were home grown and teams not made up of all players from other countries clubs, and they stayed at the same club mostly. Players do not stay in one club long enough now. Just be happy they have reached 200 and maybe get nearer 450 but cant see it going above that. Other players come in and some leave and so on.

Kalvin is home grown, so if anyone can get to 485 games to get 10th place he is a better bet than most, loves Leeds.
Some players do stay loyal, they are not all stereotypes.

Gary Kelly, the only Leeds player outside of the Revie era to play more than 500 games, 531 all competitions.
Gate receipts and sponsorship for his testimonial game against Celtic totaled nearly 1 million pounds.
Gary donated all the money to cancer research. Some of the money went to teenage cancer research, and the bulk went help finance the building of Drogheda cancer Research Centre...... Maybe some of our Irish members can chime in here and give us more info and latest update on this project?
On a side note, on his last game for Leeds he was presented with cut glass vase by some of our past greats, my Wife working for Leeds at the time escorted Gary out onto the field for the presentation.
keep it up kalvin you'll be there before you know it, and become one of our club 'legends'.

And now we have FOUR players on over 200 appearances currently playing for the club!

Bill has just joined the 200 Club! He is the 70th LUFC player to hit 200 appearances for the club.

If you haven't checked out our section on the forum yet, its here:

You will note there are players that don't have a bio written, so if you want to contribute, send me a PM!
