Final points tally

Post by dunboyne white »

The international break might be a good time to revisit this and see what our expectations are now, with games left against 5 teams below us and 4 above us.

Beat those below and lose to those above: 54
Repeat our previous result against them: 52
Same PPG as season to date: 51

I expect it’s somewhere in that range.

I’ll plump for 53. Could be enough for 10th place.

I think our current position of 11th is a very fair reflection of our team.
We concede too many goals to say we deserve a higher placing, because we can't be selective and say our attacking play deserves higher - it does, but it's a team game, so defence counts too :D

Even taking something as simple as goal difference, everyone in the top half has a positive difference, everyone in bottom half has negative - nice clean split, of which we are top of the bottom's...

Those last games of this season.

Blunts (H) - W
Manchester City (A) -L
Liverpool (H) - D
Scum (H) - L
Brighton (A) - W
Spurs (H) - D
Burnley (A) - D
Southampton (A) -L
West Brom (H) - W

I make it we’ll get 12 more points & a top 10 finish. Happy with that, actually very happy ;)

Agree with KK and its about small steps of improvement which we are seeing and have seen over the last two and half seasons.

With regards to goals conceded its interesting -
First 10 games - 17 goals
2nd 10 games - 19 goals
Last 9 games - 11 goals.

Signs that we are improving (unless Blunts hammer us) of course which is helped by players returning from injury.
Think the middle section is certainly poor but influenced by injuries, we were struggling for defenders during that period.

Think if we finish 11th its a decent season (would love top half though) for our first up and hope the improvement continues, no reason it shouldn't (top 6 next year ?) .

Was interested to see the most points for a promoted team, but saw Ipswich hold the record for a 38 game season with 66 points. So we won't be beating that.
There's light at the end of the tunnel and the future's looking very bright indeed.

.
I think we'll concede a fair few in the final 8 though, against the Manchester clubs and Liverpool.

Blunts (H) - W
Manchester City (A) -L
Liverpool (H) - L
Scum (H) - L
Brighton (A) - W
Spurs (H) - L
Burnley (A) - W
Southampton (A) -D
West Brom (H) - W

So 13 more points, taking us to 52 points, and probably remaining 11th.

Agree that would keep us above the teams who are below us at the moment, but we'd need Villa to have a poor run in to move above anyone ... they might be a different proposition with our favourite player - Jack G - back in the side.

Agree that Villa are the only team we may overtake, still doubtful though and to be honest not too bothered.

More important is who of those above us can we reel in next season?
Need to get above at least 5 of them for a top 6 finish, big ask as the higher you get the harder it is to pass those above.

A little bump for this thread is required, I think. The 3 points today are a total bonus so my 53 becomes 56.
Getting very confident of the top half finish too.
