All of us that were around at the time will appreciate Mick for his loyalty and ability to step in when needed, important part of the legendary squad simple as that.
RIP Mick

Early 1970's, Don Revie makes an inquiry about the availability of Mick Channon, might have made a cash bid actually.
Mick Channon represented England 46 times 72 to 75, over 350 apps for Southampton and a ton of goals, one of the top strikers of the 1970's.
Southampton say only way Channon is leaving Saints is if Mick Bates is part of the deal coming this way, not happening says Revie, Bates is going nowhere.
That's how much Leeds and their fans valued Mick, even though for many years he couldn't get a permanent starting position, preferring him over the 'Harry kane' of the 70's. What higher value can you place on a player.
We lost a great team mate. RIP Mick.

I only just discovered this sad news. A very good player who never let LUFC down when called upon. He would have been an automatic choice in many teams at that time but at Elland Road, he had true greats ahead of him.

RIP Mick

On the fringes of the great Revie era but I always think of him as being an integral part of the first team squad. Sadly we have lost another one

RIP Mick Bates
