The return of the…

Post by NottinghamWhite »

Food banks at Elland Road.. I’ve usually bunged a tenner in most match days.
Leeds United will once again be hosting the Leeds Fans Foodbank ahead of all home games at Elland Road to support those in need throughout the city.

After almost 18 months away for most supporters, the Foodbank initiative will be back on Saturday as we face Everton for our first home fixture of the 2021/22 season.

The Leeds United Supporters' Trust will continue to work closely with two local foodbanks in the city, as they have for the last three seasons, alongside ongoing support from the club.

Each matchday volunteers will set-up outside Elland Road in front of the East Stand two hours ahead of kick-off, meaning it will be 1pm for this weekend, to take generous donations of emergency food items from the fanbase that will help those in our local community that need extra support through difficult times.

During the COVID-19 pandemic the Leeds South and East Foodbank alone helped to support over 14,000 families who had been affected, whether it was due to low or loss of income over the period.

For any supporters who are unable to bring products to the food drives at home games, you can also make an online donation, where fans have donated over a staggering £100k so far. All of the money raised online is then used to purchase other essential items for families. If you are able to make a donation, please visit the JustGiving page here.

Wendy Doyle, who is the Project Manager at Leeds South and East Foodbank, said: “After an extremely difficult 17 months, everybody in the city and beyond are starting to slowly get back to some normality. The volunteers at Leeds Fans Foodbank are extremely pleased to be back collecting at all home games from Saturday 21st August – both in food and monetary donations.

“The support and love Leeds fans have showed us at previous collections has been amazing and helped to feed thousands of families across the city. We hope we can continue to help lots more families with all your future support and generous donations.”

A massive thank you to all of our fans for their ongoing support for the Leeds Fans Foodbank initiative.
