Yep, I was one of the said few, and I'll put it even simpler, I just want the club to progress this season and get better. To achieve that we don't have to go up.

Since getting back in the Championship we have slowly gone backwards in a Michael Jackson moonwalk style, slowly and systematically selling off all the best players and never once attempting to replace them.

This season (so far, touch wood), we have added quality, and kept the better players. That's progress, and lets hope by saying that I have not bloody jinxed it!
I'm with both of you on this, yes I would love if we got promoted but at what expense? Get relegated again and spend another 2-5 years trying to get back up? I know it's all hypothetically speaking etc but for me i would rather spend time building a solid foundation to stay in the premiership when we do get there.

We're only a big club when we have a team to show we are, just like the phrase a team is only as good as its last result. :D I'm not looking for promotion and this season I'm keeping my feet firmly on the ground, last year I got carried away and was bitterly disappointed by Warnocks tenure but it wasn't all his fault to be fair.

FFP MY ARSE, ..actually within the boundaries of FPP I suspect we could easily spend an additional £5m on transfer fees and wages each year for the next 4 seasons. Transfer fees could be capitalised. However I digress why oh why do you think city are spending in excess of £200m on their sporting "academy" which might just encompass a mall, hotel and flats which all might just provide a revenue stream to supplement football income. GFH COULD FREE up the thick end of £5m of working capital pa overnight with the legitimate acquisition of the ground and TA. Sad fact is they are skint members hoping for the equivilent of a lottery win to get us up. No they are not as bad as bates, but he sure made sure he sold us to owners who couldn't really demonstrate what a ( fill in the expletive) he was!!

I'm with the glad the club is moving forward again (albeit at a slow pace) brigade. Yes GFH have made some positive steps. But as some have already mentioned these are steps you would expect with any club trying to recapture a disenchanted fan base. I think we all (me too) got a bit carried away on July the 1st and we were spoilt with good news so who can blame us for having higher aspirations than we did under the Bates regime.

If at the end of August we have kept our best players, moved on one or two bit's of dead wood and BMD has managed to get his man I think we can all say that GFH are indeed taking the club onwards and upwards.

This is the thing, I think I said before we had signed anyone this season that it was probably more important to keep the likes of Byram, McCormack and Lees than adding the odd journeyman.
Its so far so good, the players we have brought in seem to tick the boxes and we have so far kept the players we need to.
