This Sunday will see representatives of the Leeds United Ability Counts programme combine to play their first ever game in the FA Disability Cup as they host Boro Rangers at Garforth Town’s Cedar Ridge Ground in a 13:30 kick off.

Currently in its second season as an FA Pilot Competition, the 2013-14 FA Disability Cup is seen as the pinnacle of disability football in this country and will see eight clubs from the North and eight clubs from the South play off in regional competition with the two winners meeting in the Final at St. George’s Park on Saturday 7th June 2014. The competition fixtures will be played over 90 minutes with rolling substitutions and a penalty shoot out to decide the result in the event of a draw.

Leeds United Foundation C.E.O. Mick Ferguson commented: “It’s great news that Sunday will see Leeds United Ability Counts make their debut in the FA Disability Cup. Ability Counts has long been one of our most successful programmes and we look forward to the opportunity to expand into this national competition. It’s a credit to the tireless efforts of our Ability Counts coaching team that an opportunity such as this has come along and we hope that our entry in this competition will be a springboard to many future opportunities. We wish the team the best of luck and hope at the very least they all have a day to remember.”

Having already worked with more than 1200 players over the ten years the scheme has been in existence, the Leeds United Foundation Ability Counts programme currently has 130 members ranging in age from 4 to 56 and is one of the largest disability football schemes in the UK.

The squad for Sunday’s game has been selected from across the Leeds region with players drawn from the Leeds United Foundations Ability Counts or Football 4 Me programmes.

Leeds Head Coach Andy Skenfield said: “The players are very proud to have been selected to represent Leeds United and are all looking forward to the opportunity to test themselves against the best the country has to offer.”

Leeds Assistant Coach Mark Elwen added: “The lads have all really worked hard in preparation for this game. They’ve excelled in all the weekly training sessions and warm-up games we’ve put on for them so as far as we’re concerned, Sunday can’t come round quickly enough!”

Any fans interested in attending the game to support the Leeds United side can do so with entry to the ground priced at £2 for adults and £1 for concessions.
