Used to love this as a story when I was a kid, played on vinyl numerous times. I could've sworn I watched a cartoon version of it in the early 70s too but that isn't likely as there wasn't one until 1987!
I listened to it on YouTube last night, it's not half as good as I remembered it but it's still got some wonder to it.
Rigger will probably know something about the music of a later Sparky adventure

Still own a double vinyl album, Hello Children Everywhere, bought when the kids were young. Includes all the greats which of course means Sparky, Runaway Train Etc.
Used to be a radio programme I think which became Chilren's Favourites when I was a kid myself. Innocence used to abound. Now kids F&Blind and watch the Kardashions rather than The Laughing Policeman.

When I was young I said to my mum, 'are the hills in the distance America?'

I have a CD called All Aboard which contains all the classic children's tunes, its probably a later version of Hello Children Everywhere. My daughter (5) loves My Brother by Terry Scott and Right said Fred by Bernard Cribbins. Fantastic memories.
