Orta he still be here (sorry bad pun)?

Post by phil62 »

Trawling through various posts there is a lot of negativity about Orta. I have to say that, for me, the jury is still out on him. He has had some successes. Saiz is our best acquisition for a decade, Klich seemed to fall foul of the manager's rather than not being any good, Alioski got better and better as the season went on, Seabiscuit never really got much time but isn't a bad player in my opinion, Foreshaw has been a good buy, Lassoga lost interest when PH came (as did I) but scored a decent number of goals in relatively few starts, and the lad from WBA whose name eludes me (Roberts) has yet to be seen. Most of the others are younger players brought in with a view to finding that real diamond. I don't think we should judge him until we see what happens this season - and then not until the end of it.

Discuss (retreats to fallout shelter).

When Orta was joining us I asked a mate (Boro fan) of his opinion in him. He basically told me he buys lots of players, finds the odd gem, gives or helps give long contracts, some players don't even get into the first team and then get sold for a loss.

Think he was spot on.

Not much point discussing whether he should be here or not because he's clearly not going anywhere .. at least, not unless our new coach doesn't want to work with him but presumably they will have already met so that shouldn't even be an issue. In fact, Orta should've hired him, shouldn't he ??

I dunno.
It works elsewhere so it's not the system per se but rather the individual circumstances at each club.

It makes me angry when I read all these instant, negative judgements on Facebook in groups of Leeds "fans". It's worse than The S*n's letters page most days : illiterate knee-jerkers spouting venom at the latest scapegoat.
Society's entitled generation wants results yesterday and life has never been like that, certainly not in the good old days.
It took The Don years to get the blend right. Wilko did it very rapidly but the whole philosophy was short-term, putting the right pieces into place for what was needed then, rather than trying to build a lasting dynasty and it came tumbling down quickly enough afterwards, until the academy finally bore fruit and we rose again.

Trouble is, there is no time anymore, not in football.

We're cash poor and time rich and have been for fifteen long seasons.
The one thing that gives me hope is reading that Bielsa has been given a three-year contract.
He'll be on (relatively) big money (by our standards) so that's a hell of an investment and a very big statement.
Now if we can just leave him be for a couple of years at least ...

Dont really understand all the negativity towards Orta to be honest, unless someone can lay down the facts to say he has had XXX budget to spend on transfers & XXX on the salaries etc & then compare that with other clubs I'm not sure how you can judge him, If he's not got a competitive budget to work with he's going to be very hit & miss, lets not make him a scapegoat for the club not spending competitively.

Orta will have had plenty of influence and input in bringing Bielsa here, if & when he does get here.

All of them at the club have made mistakes. Simple fact for me is that we, on here at least, recognized ages ago where the team was weak and yet hardly any of those very obvious issues were addressed well. That can't just be Orta's fault, the owner, the manager whoever it is needs to take responsibility, the coaches as well and of course the players.
