Another Northern Soul wrote:'Penny pinching' isn't a fair term to use in the James fiasco but that said, Leeds did leave it til very late whereas if they had done all the negotiating earlier in the month Swansea wouldn't have been able to shaft us or their player. As to why Radrizzani left it so late is anyone's guess but plenty of fans like to blame him for the deal collapsing.
Leaving it late / penny pinching it’s semantics. Bielsa a genius of a manager who’s delivered you a team which was top of the table and worth £50m more than when he started, wanted 1 player and he failed to deliver taking it to the wire on the negotiation. As a result Radz stands to lose £200m ... every day he must wish he’d got the deal over the line on the 1st of jan instead of trying to dave a few hundred grand. The other thing as way o background 3 players has left the club from the agreed squad at the beginning of the season Viera, Saiz and the Baker. I repeat Bielsa wanted 1 player, we ****** about negotiating trying to save money when millions was at stake.

Nope.
I'm not having that.
You're out of order saying that.

He's spent plenty of money since he took over and in all the right places : buying back ER, getting Thorp Arch in shape and hiring Bielsa and his amazing team of professionals. We've won the U23s league and are still in the race to be promoted.

I think he's done a fine job, period.

Compared to our last few owners he's been a saint.
I agree in comparison to others however let’s be clear our budget is significantly below the majority of teams in the division. The bare minimum an owner needs to fund is circa £13m per season. Look at how creative mel Morris has been at Derby to get round FFP. It was ridiculous we didn’t sign james and cashed in on Viera against Bielsas wishes. As I said ultimately it’s him who’s lost out on £200m plus the profit Bielsa would have delivered on james.

i was actually defending you, numptybrain :D 'Semantics' is just a posh word people sometimes use when they've used the wrong word in the first place. How is it penny pinching when Leeds had agreed a deal with Swansea and the player was up here, passing his medical and waiting to sign?

The Swansea chairman is definitely to blame though.
As annoying as it was for us, he acted in the interest of his club, and they'll benefit from it.

Of course he did BUT he reneged on a deal and is therefore to blame, that is literally all I'm saying, t's not a 'need' to blame anyone, it's just factually correct that he is responsible because of his deceitful actions.

Swansea wanted £5m up front and the player would have been outs in early jan if we had payed it, instead we messed around, and the farcical situation on deadline day occurred. With the funds at his disposal and the size of the prize, the deal should have been long before Jenkins could renage at the last minute.

It's 'renege' and that is ALL we need to know about the deal, it's not penny pinching it's someone going back on their word, simple as that.

The window opened on the 1st yet many clubs fanny about waiting to the last day, I will never understand it. I get that players might have their valuation upped by their clubs in the transfer windows or that they want to seek a replacement should they sell a player but they have enough time in which to do their business. James wouldn't have got us in to the autos, tbh, I don't really rate him that much, yes, he has pace to burn but his end product is poor most of the time, just my opinion.

Rumour is that Daniel James is going to Man U for £15m.
I once played against Don Revie.
