Yes, Davy. I was in the railway end with a few friends who came over from England and some from the Republic. The Oval came as a bit of a shock to them I think. They enjoyed the Welders club after though.
There was an argument afterwards about the attendance wasn't there? Seemed like Glentoran were trying to underestimate the crowd to get out of paying the full share. As if you'd wipe Bates' eye!

Slightly off thread this but the 'underestimate' of the crowd reminded me. In 1959, when I played for Yorkshire Amateur, we were drawn to play a top London amateur club in the quarter final of the old FA Amateur cup. We were drawn away so had to travel by train to London and two nights in a London hotel. Expensive trip. The London clubs ground included a big stand and covered terracing on the other three sides. I was pretty good at estimating crowds and the ground was packed. I reckoned 5/6,000. I was very surprised when the crowd was announced as 2,300! I mentioned this to our club Chairman and his response was: 'we have to trust their honesty and it wouldn't be sporting to query it'. 'Done up like a kipper' as they say in London. One Eyed Thompson wrote:Yes, Davy. I was in the railway end with a few friends who came over from England and some from the Republic. They were great days to be watching proper footballers play proper football.
