One thing i would say is that the Shopping experience is still a important part of the day for some people of a certain age. We have quite afew customers who come in the shop on a daily basis (part of their daily routine i would imagine) and you can tell they look forward to speaking to somebody. I think some customers like to make use of their free buss pass aswell.
Am i right in thinking if they don't have your exact item, then they will substitute it for something similar, and what happens if you have a quality issue with some items do you just send them back with the driver?
One thought I was a deadringer for Stewart Granger (I had hair back then ) and would badger me for a good twenty minutes on a Saturday, typically across three visits : "Oh, I forgot the cat food. Did you ever see The Prisoner of Zenda ?"

I embittered and disappointed to admit it sounds like a great service.Barlow Boy wrote:Some of the supermarkets send an e-mail on the morning of the delivery, telling you what is not coming and/or what has been substituted for an alternative. Alternatively, the driver tells you when he arrives. Either way, you just accept it or not, and obviously they return your money. Occasionally, it works out quite well if you order something and they’ve only got it in a larger size, as you get the larger one for the price of the smaller .Viduka Hits The Mark wrote: Am i right in thinking if they don't have your exact item, then they will substitute it for something similar, and what happens if you have a quality issue with some items do you just send them back with the driver?
It’s very rare when something arrives damaged, but if it does, and the driver has already left, you just drop them an e-mail and they refund your money.
I know you won’t like this mate, but I honestly can’t understand why folk still go in supermarkets for the reasons I mentioned previously, although I appreciate for some the company and getting out of the house may be a big thing.

Re: Home delivery
To continue the debate I don't mind shopping and we often go with an open mind to what meals we are having and see something on the shelf that decides for us.
Other thing lots of food (eg, Milk) it allows us to pick the best "use by" date, there can be a big variation in dates.
We use various supermarkets in Selby including Tesco, Morrisons, Home Bargains, Farmfoods and very occasionally Sainsburys. If in York we may use Waitrose or ASDA for certain stuff.

Re: Home delivery
I hate shopping that’s why online shopping is so good. We buy the bulk of our groceries from Tesco but do use M&S ( as we have a food hall within easy walking distance ) Sainsbury’s & for a little while longer Waitrose ( it’s due to close ) our local Tesco Express has recently made all the existing staff redundant which is a shame because I go there most days & all the staff I used to have some banter with have gone. Also the Tesco supermarket near us has closed the meat counter 3/4 days a week, are they in trouble ?

Tesco have also closed their meat counter in Selby (was only cold meats as don't have a butcher section) so all pre-packed now. To be honest didn't use it because Morrisons just over the road is far better for that sort of thing.NottinghamWhite wrote:I hate shopping that’s why online shopping is so good. Re: Home delivery
I was pleasantly surprised at how good is at Lidl we now buy our steaks & other meat from there now. My pet gripe with them is there’s only ever one person on the checkout so if you’re unlucky you can be 15 minutes in the queue, so always pop my head around the door to see how busy it is now. Once bitten & all thatSelby White wrote:

Re: Home delivery
Well we tried this after reading this thread and were very happy with the result. Any items with a sell by date all had decent dates and everything was well packed. The driver was a nice Hungarian guy who was friendly and courteous. Will use again and it only cost £2:50 for the delivery, given the hassle and trying to get parked was more than happy to pay that.
