I can remember exactly where I was when we signed Mark Viduka and how excited I was. This transfer window is making be feel young againSelby White wrote:Not forgetting a certain Mark VidukaPC71 wrote:I 100% agree that playing for Celtic in Scotland’s top league doesn’t make you a great player, it also doesn’t mean you can’t become one (VVD, Kenny Dalglish etc.).
It might also be why I'm so gung ho on Eduoard signing. I love Mark Viduka. All my friends are massive Liverpool and scum fans and the feeling when he got 4 that day against pool was immense.
I was in England for this game and the feeling in the pit of my stomach when Hyppia and Ziege scored early was sickening because of my friends. If we got hammered and it looked like we would at that point I would have to keep stum for a whole year

Having listened to the Phil Hay show and after looking through his tweets, Felipe is unlikely because of how far along we are with Koch. After Rodrigo and Koch, he could see Bielsa being relatively happy, but he expects someone who can play out wide and at 10 to come in at some point too. After that, I think it will depend on Casilla.

Harsh, I know, but I could live with that...twalkden wrote:....I'd be surprised if we got Koch and Felipe - they'd both expect (rightly so) to start which would push Coops to the bench....PC71 wrote:If (big if) we sign Rodrigo, Koch and Felipe, fully expect Brighton to ring up saying they will sell White to us now, as we will now be no longer competition to them.

Me too. I'm a fan of Cooper and clearly he's popular in the squad but he is not premier league quality unfortunately. Hope he proves me wrong if we do only sign 1 CB which I still think would be ridiculous. Going into the season with 2 CBs...wildOtherworld wrote:Harsh, I know, but I could live with that...twalkden wrote:....I'd be surprised if we got Koch and Felipe - they'd both expect (rightly so) to start which would push Coops to the bench....PC71 wrote:If (big if) we sign Rodrigo, Koch and Felipe, fully expect Brighton to ring up saying they will sell White to us now, as we will now be no longer competition to them.

Makes you nostalgic for the heady days when we were signing the likes of Noel Hunt, Paddy Kenny and Scott Wooton? No didn't think so.

Think about it. As the underdogs this season our CB’s are going to be under far more pressure than previous seasons. This means that injuries, red cards and possibly even loss of confidence are probably more likely and this would create the need for a quality replacement. I know we have other existing team members that can “fill the role” but we need specialists in each role this year, and none more so than CB. I could “fill” the role but at this level we could be exposed very badly very quickly.
So two CB’s please Senor Orta, urgently. Koch plus one.

All the videos and reading ive done on Rodrigo points me towards thinking he may well be the Pablo replacement as opposed to a Bamford replacement. I understand he can play as a 9 but it appears he more so plays off the right or in behind similar to what the GOAT does

I think the idea is that he can play all over, but will be competition for Bamford. Phil Hay has already said what a lot of us suspected - that we won't be going for another striker this window, which suggests this is true.new signing wrote:All the videos and reading ive done on Rodrigo points me towards thinking he may well be the Pablo replacement as opposed to a Bamford replacement. I agree with NS on this point and think Rodrigo will be playing in the role Tyler Roberts played after the restart with Pablo used as an impact sub.Leonickroberts wrote:I think the idea is that he can play all over, but will be competition for Bamford. Paddy will start as I believe MB feels his all round play and movement is critical in us dominating possession. Tyler will be the direct competition for him at this stage. I also think a lot of us forget he is still only 21 years old and still developing, could eventually eliminate a need for a striker.
Of course looking to the future we have signed a huge talent Joe Gelhardt who is still 18 years old but its more than possible he will be pushing for a start sooner rather than later.
Not getting worked up about forwards as the priority is clearly a CB to play alongside Coops.
Just a thought if we don't sign by today and the player we sign comes from a country on the ever changing quarantine list he wouldn't be able to play at Liverpool.
