I feel we ought to cut Gjanni Alioski some slack over the question of his possible move to Galatasary.

To begin with, he was eight years old on the fateful night in Istanbul, and so even though he will have been made aware of events, it's hardly something for him to feel involves him.

He's not guaranteed regular football at the moment, and who knows how that will stand after any incoming summer transfers?

He's our favourite nutcase at LUFC, and never gives less than his his best for us on the pitch whenever he plays.

The situation surrounding any talks about his existing contract seems somewhat murky, so we don't know what sort of deal he has / hasn't been offered to stay.

Lastly, it can't have been much fun stuck in Leeds during lockdown, unable to see family over in Northern Macedonia because of travel restrictions, said family not a million miles from Turkey.

Sorry, but I refuse to join in with the level of abuse being sent his way, and I wish Gjanni all the best in the future, with thanks for his hard work whilst at Leeds.

Well said York. I respect the opinions of the fans who are upset - it was a horrific incident that will leave a permanent legacy, but I agree with everything you say. It's not like Kewell, who grew up at the club and was around at the time. 20 years have passed, and I don't think Alioski is dishonouring anybody's memory with this move if it happens.

He's part of Leeds history now & a great person to have in the squad
Hope he never plays for us again as the pain is so so great
Lucky for him there is no fans in at the moment
Sorry thats my opinion.

I tend to agree with the above - It doesn't mean we forgot that dreadful night and the memories of Chris and Kev - I also wish Alioski all the best, as and when it happens - Remember that Macedonia is a lot closer to Turkey than Elland Road, so maybe that might have an impact on his choice as he will be closer to friends/family - To me, he can always be held in high esteem at ER, for his part in getting us back on the road - My daughter is now 19 and to her, that Championship/promotion side, is part of a folklore that I relate to the early 70's side - As such Alioski will always be part of Bielsa's tight band of brothers

Totally agree that it is not the same as when Kewell made such a move, as he was part 'n' parcel of the whole horrific night and knew all about such feelings, for all concerned

Best of luck Gjanni - the terrible events that night had nothing to do with you.

Chris & Kevin, never forgotten, but we cannot expect players, especially foreign players, to join Leeds and then automatically be exempt from joining certain other clubs.

I have no wish to visit Turkey, but that's my personal decision, I would not expect others to avoid it because of my beliefs.

I think York and KK have said it perfectly. Good Luck Mr Alioski wherever you end up!
Owners come and go but Leeds United will be there forever, for the fans - keep Marching on Together.

Think you need to look at it from the individuals position and as others have said Alioski was only 8 on that horrible night.

He is also Macedonian and will have more connections with Turkey than with the UK, he'd probably not heard of Leeds until we got interested in him.
If he can earn some decent money for his eventual retirement can we blame him, would any of us do different in our work fields.

Now Kewell is different he was part of our team back then, not forgiving that one.

Personally like many Leeds fans I'll never go to Turkey as was about at the time, its part of my little protest. I was supposed to be at the match but flight was cancelled on the day so lots of fans didn't get there. I actually part blame Uefa as don't believe the match should have gone ahead.
Doesn't mean I've something against all Turks but it feels right just not to go there.

Still how long do we hate for, it was 20 years ago.
Maybe we shouldn't have signed Koch we had World Wars with the Germans, or dump Meslier as French William put a arrow in Harolds eye.
What about the Falkands should we have allowed Bielsa through the door and wont even start with our Spanish players and that Armada.

Of course all that is stupid you need to look forward and move on, far better to smile than continue with anger of all the things we can't control in history.

So if Alioski moves on it will be with fond memories from me wishing him the best, its still a big if though.

If he goes there then I'm done with him TBH, but he might well not be bothered with this sort of view.

This is the club and supporters that actually revel in the notoriety of murdering two of our own. This is also the club that released on retail sale a set of branded knives very close to the anniversary of the killings.

I like Alioski as a person and a squad member but he will know about the history, it is nothing to do with how old he was when those despicable events occurred or that he's not a Leeds fan.

The thought of him joking around and having fun with the same set of supporters who see the slaughter of two opposing supporters as something to be proud of genuinely repulses.

Please don't feel that I'm looking for an argument - I'm not, I wasn't going to comment on this situation and I'm not full of hate or xenophobia, I just think there are more important things in life than a nice payday. He has been offered a new contract by Leeds and I'd be staggered if he is not already made for life financially.
