I visit Ponte Squash Club twice per week which is opposite the Haribo factory.Venetowhite wrote:It was Dunhills when I lived there. The pride in the Pontefract Cake hasn't diminished since the German takeover mind, and when I got married to a Veneto lass, our mam brought over tons of the stuff to hand out to the wedding guests post fancy Italian meal. They loved it.
Not sure how old the club is so you may not remember it.
Ps Kikos nightclub is closed
And will be in Italy next week but not Veneto, visiting the capital.

Re: Hello from Italy
I remember that squash club being built, mid-80s I think.
I've only set foot in Kiko's once, when it was called Liberties or something, to drag my sister's mate (from Cas) out as I was driving them home. She was totally bladdered and snogging all and sundry, but I wanted to get home to have a few cans. Dreadful dive, but an important part of local history!
What you off down that Rome for?

Friends recommended Rome to us, been to Italy a few times but never Rome.
Rimini as a child, walking hol in tuscany & Cilento bit more recent. Oh not forgetting our honeymoon was in Sardinia.

Re: Hello from Italy
When I'm in the UK visiting relatives my American wife makes me stop off at the Haribo factory shop every time we come over. She doesn't understand Pontefract Cakes at all though, thinks they're disgusting and the height of weird British candy, lolSelby White wrote:opposite the Haribo factory.
