Top Tips for the manager in 2014-15

Post by Carl Harris and his mighty moustache »

1. If we have a striker play him as a striker. No more of this play him a winger rubbish. Wickham, King, etc

2. If we have signed a young right footed winger with pace on a 3 year contract (Stewart), play him on the right. Do not play a centre half there (Wooton)

3. Do not ever again let Tom Lees loft an aimless ball forward out of defence - it always goes to their centre half

4. Remind Ross that being captain does not require him to play in every position, his job is to score and create - he needs to stick to that.

5. Toughen up Matt Smith and Mowatt - they both have potential to wear the white shirt well but need a bit more nous about how they use their physique to their advantage

6. Got Noel Hunt to give Ross jumping lessons

7. If you must play Danny Pugh only use him as a wing back

8. If he recovers from injury sign Dexter Blackstock - with him in the side he looked 1/2 decent

9. Teach the team the value of pass and move, encourage them to take players on and above all inject some pace into the side.

In the championship it really is that simple to compete.

10) If you have a 6ft 6 striker up front, cross the ball in from the wing not from our own box (e.g Tom Lees)

11) Don't say you want to make us the best passing team in the division and then play hoofball.

15) Pace - in defence

16) Pace - in midfield

17) Pace - in attack

18) Don't for one minute think hoof to Smith is in any way acceptable for lufc. We are better than that.

19) SIgn someone that has leadership skills. Someone that just doesn't accept defeat or performances like the ones we have seen on 2014. Preferably a defensive midfielder
20) If you feel the need to play Austin again (please don't) NEVER use him on the wing. It's embarassing.
21) Sign coaching/backroom staff pros (better coaches and maybe a sports psychologist).

To be a successful counter attacking team you don't need to have pace everywhere. You just need to have pace in key areas where there's space to run into, a solid base, good off the ball movement, the ability to move the ball quickly and an element of explosiveness to your play.
