Leslie Silver

Post by NottinghamWhite »

News filtering through on Twitter that Leslie a Silver has passed away. A great chairman & a gentleman I met briefly at the Don Revie statue unveiling.

That's very sad, if true, especially at this time of year.

RIP

I cant say I remember too much about him but maybe that's because chairmen stayed more in the background in his day

Was the main man behind the transition at Leeds United. He was vilified after he sacked Billy Bremner in 1988 and I remember the demonstrations that followed the next home game against Watford. Four years later, we were Champions again. A true Mr Leeds United.

Cheers Phil, I remember the outcry after Billy's sacking. Maybe less details got to us outliers than it does today what with the etherweb an all but from what Ive read over the years he was a true Leeds man.

A sad day indeed as an ex chairman dies.

Oh to find another chairman with the passion he had for Leeds United.

RIP.

I thought he was more vilified for sacking Eddie Gray. Regardless. A War hero too. Put his money where his mouth was unlike ridsdale, Leighton, bates etc.

Wrote to me when I wrote to him re sale of batty and Cantona. I appreciated his sentiment.

Sad news. He gave me my greatest memories of watching Leeds United. Getting promoted from Division 2. Coming 4th in Division one the following year. Then of course beating Scum to become the Champions in 92.

RIP Mr Silver. A proper chairman who made some very difficult decisions for the good of Leeds United. MOT
July 26th 2013. The day Leeds United rid themselves of an odious git.
