Allow the north of England to secede from the UK and join Scotland
The deliberations in Westminster are becoming increasingly irrelevant to the north of England. The northern cities feel far greater affinity with their Scottish counterparts such as Glasgow and Edinburgh than with the ideologies of the London-centric south.
The needs and challenges of the north cannot be understood by the endless parade of old Etonions lining the frontbenches of the House of Commons. The north of England should join the newly independent Scotland and regain control over its own destiny. We, the people of the north, demand that in the event that Scotland becomes independent the border between England and the New Scotland be drawn along a line that runs between the River Dee and the mouth of The Humber (see map).

Re: North of England to join SCOTLAND?!
Misunderstood by Old Etonians/Bullingdon Boys doesn't mean we're all Scots now? Devolved powers for the regions makes sense, jumping into bed with the Scots does not. Things will look a whole lot different in Scotland if/when they gain independence - I imagine Scots in the Highlands and Islands will soon be complaining that they have little in common with those across the heavily populated central area for instance.
Spotted this in an interesting debate on the SNP:
"As someone who is fortunate enough to be very well off I've done very well indeed out of the SNP government. Council tax has been cut in real terms and as my property is in the top band that has been very valuable. I get free prescriptions funded by cuts in the NHS elsewhere. I no longer pay tolls on the Forth Road Bridge as I drive over every weekend to my holiday home while bus subsidies have been reduced. My daughter will be going to university and we'll be getting a big subsidy for that funded by cuts in state schools but as she went to a private school that didn't impact us.
The SNP are also promising to cut air passenger duty as soon as they get that power and as someone who always travels business class that would disproportionately benefit me. There were also promises to cut corporation tax which would earn me many hundreds of thousands a year.
So I agree with McDermott: nobody with any knowledge of the SNP could possibly describe it as socialist party."
Not saying the above is correct but as someone gutted by the election result it does make me stop and think. Truth is, folk without have more in common with other folk without wherever they live and riding to hounds in Belvoir is much the same as North Yorks I imagine. Too many folk are disenfranchised. Too much politics (life) is about hate/fear/threat/blame and too little about inclusiveness and care. Whichever part of the country you live in Jack is alright and the election result, for me at least, saw Jacks of all persuasions lining up behind their champion (UKIP, SNP and major parties). The polarisation for me isn't north/south it's haves/have nots, embrace Europe/retreat and lock our front door etc. Can't see a link to Scotland resolving the issues tbh.
Increased parochialism is what we're seeing I fear. I doubt it's the answer. I hope not.

But taking into account of the robbed lands - the REAL border should be where Hadrian's wall is (see black line not the present one!!)
Did you know?
"Ancient documents have revealed that Doncaster was signed over to Scotland 900 years ago as part of the treaty of Durham after King David successfully stormed large areas of Northern England. It remained in Scottish hands for 21 years untill Henry 11 reclaimed the town in 1157.But the pact was never signed and Doncaster strictly speaking, still belongs to Scotland"

I have always been in favour of devolved governmental power. Regional governments elected through proportional reperesentation. These would provide, a much better government for the regions of this country, which seem to be ever decreasingly deprived in favour of 'London Central' and the South.

Aren't we supposed to have Derby City Council and Nottingham City Council to fulfil the role you are describing?Frankie wrote:I have always been in favour of devolved governmental power. I'd scrap them both in favour of an East Midlands regional assembly that understands the needs of the region without needing to be subservient to London.
The model is Germany, by the way...
Might have to take an interest in the Premier League now....
