Brussels Airport

Post by Selby White »

A couple of explosions at Brussels Airport this morning 4 days after one of the Paris attackers was arrested in Belgium.
The world certainly needs to work together and eliminate these evil cowards.

My thoughts are with those innocents injured, many I suspect just going on their Easter holidays.
Keep your face always toward the sunshine - and shadows will fall behind you.

These really are sad times that we live in. Innocent people going about their business and this happens. There are also reports of at least 4 separate explosions on the metro.

13 dead and 35 wounded at the airport. and suicide bombing confirmed... official source.

I saw London Has Fallen last week and even then I thought it was too realistic.
Today it became a documentary :(

It seems that the airport bomb went off in the check in line so I wouldn't be surprised if security measures were brought in just for you to get inside an airport. Still if it saves lives the sooner it's implemented the better.

Thing is, I can't see any end to it.

It's like Ireland in the 70s and 80s.
Both sides think they're right and if you're on either you believe you're doing right by "your people" and that the other side is wrong/oppressive/evil.

I genuinely don't know what the west is going to do about the east. You can't destroy an entire religion or even the mental hardline within one.
The people blowing up bits of Europe and America aren't representative of Muslims in the same way that Anders Behring Breivik isn't representative of "christians".

A nutter is a nutter is a nutter.
Doesn't matter what flavour they are.

Do we pull out of the middle east and let 'em get on with it ?
Not practical - too much invested in the oil industry and politics.

Do we move from country to country, weeding out the ring-leaders ?
Perpetual war and billions down the drain. Again.

Do we keep calm and carry on ?

I think it'll be the perpetual war option.
It fuels our own patriotic zeal, is a powerful political aid, keeps the economy rolling with arms development and sales and is better than doing nothing. Apparently.

What a sorry, wretched world we live in.

No wonder we escape into the sorry, wretched world of Leeds United for a break from reality :(

Thing I still hear politicians saying it's important how we indentify those becoming radicalised and stop them from going - when everyone I speak to couldn't give a number 2s if they go - it that we never want them to be able to re enter the country. Sadly it's only a matter of time until this happens in the UK. My mates son works at the EU and travels on public transport, heart was in my mouth this morning - thankfully he is ok, but Brussels has been on alert for months, sadly the authorities are not prepared to bite the bullet to protect the majority.

What should they do then ?

Genuine question because I'm stumped ..
