Re: Where in the world
The only reason I know is that I've been there. Beautiful place and very interesting museum dealing with the mass emigrations following the famine. All the ships left from Cobh.
Just being pedantic, I clarify that my 'not Cork' meant Cork City.

That's Correct John. Cobh is a really beautiful place that used to be called Queenstown. Did you visit Spike Island when there John? it was an old British army barracks then an Irish army barrack after independence. Eventually it was turned into a prison up until 15 years or so ago they closed it down and has since become a museum. Its an interesting place is Cobh with an excellent view of the Cork Harbor. Some really nice Cafe's there too and beer gardens. Its also kept its original looks and hasn't been messed about by progress like other towns and cities in Ireland has. Picturesque and a place which is nice to visit for a day or two.johnh wrote:If you Google 'photo's of cobh' it provides all the proof you need!

Re: Where in the world
CW, unfortunately, we didn't spend much time in Cobh. It was a long week-end to do with Geneology. We went down to Cobh on the Sunday mid-day, which was our last day. Plane left early evening so we didn't have that long. If I'd known how nice it was I might have stayed longer.CorkWhite wrote:That's Correct John. No, I can't post pictures but I have got a couple which may prove challenging. If anyone would like to volunteer, I will post them off. Just PM your address. (all depends on whether I can find them though )NottinghamWhite wrote:Not sure John can post pictures mate so can you do the next onemapperleywhite wrote:Very generous davy, but john said definitively it is Cobh, I would never have guessed that.Davycc wrote:I'll give MW it as Corkjohnh wrote:Close, but its not Cork, its Cobh.
