I remember the 1st game of the season winning 3-1 away at Southampton it took forever to get to The Dell from North Yorkshire, hours on a coach with guys beer farting most of the way
I did a few games that season both home & away I remember going to Maine Road a nasty place at the best of times to go to full of little ginnels where you could be attacked at anytime & losing 3-1 to a very good City side. Napoli at home winning 2-0 with a rare brace from Big Jack. I obviously didn't go to the away game but we lost 2-0 & the outcome was decided on the toss of a coin. :eh:
Losing to Ujpest Dozsa of Hungary in the Inter Cities Fairs Cup who went onto the final to be beaten by Newcastle in the final, Newcastles last major trophy.
But my highlight was at Anfield such a special evening.

I'll shut up now

How times have changed in football terms!! I can remember The Don giving his speech from the front of Leeds town Hall after our first division 1 championship win where he was trying to convince the faithful that this achievement eclipsed the winning of the FA Cup as this was a measurement of the team over the full season rather than 6 or 7 games. the FA cup in them days was the ultimate football prize. Not any more!!!

I started following Leeds properly when I was 8/9 in 2003/2004 so I can't really say I've had a season that has been great to watch, other than the L1 promotion.

Started following Leeds in the relegation season of 1981/82... Still hold myself responsible.
Luckily I've had 2 promotions (although one was from League 1), the championship winning season and O'Leary's babies era to reminisce on.

Someone mentioned in an earlier thread that following Leeds is black and white, or words to that affect.. I certainly thought of the years between winning the championship and O'Learys reign as nothing short of completely grey... Anyone remember 1996/97 when our leading scorers were Brian Deane and Lee Sharpe with 5 goals each? Sorry NW, went off topic there.

Championship season of 1991/92 definitely my favourite, although I traveled over to ER quite a bit during the Champions League run, so from a drinking/traveling/prime of my life perspective, 2000/01 is up there too.

Back by popular demand so on to the 2007-08 season when rightly or wrongly we started the season on -15 points a certain Ken Bates owned the club & none other than Dennis Wise was the manager a scenario you couldn't have made up.
First game of the season was away at Tranmere & despite everything tickets were like gold dust. Myself & 4 mates travelled to the Wirral not knowing what to expect. In the pub before the game there was a special buzz, one I'd not felt before it was us against them. The away end was packed but despite everything we were UNITED. Players that day were Beckford, Prutton, Douglas, Westlake et al but they felt the special atmosphere & duly reduced the deficit to -12 with a 2-1 win.
My next trip was an easy trip to Nottingham Forest where a group of over 50 Nottingham Whites met in a pub on the outskirts of the city. Myself & a guy called Graham Swift started this members club in September 2006 & this was our first venture onto " home turf " A goal apiece from Beckford & Kandol saw us grab a 2-1 win & a night in the pub where the beer flowed.
Games at home to Hartlepool & a Friday fixture away to Bristol Rovers followed giving us 4 victories on the trot & a huge 2 fingers to the authorities ensued. I didn't go to the Swansea game because of illness but did travel to Kent to see us play Gillingham where conspiracy theories were raised as both Beckford & Kandol were red carded for very soft fouls. As the referee & his officials went off the pitch coins & bottles were hurled at them by the angry away fans, still we kept the unbeaten run going with a 1-1 draw.
I missed the away game at Oldham due to work commitments but travelled to ER for the games against Yeovil & Orient, unbeaten run still in tact & the fans becoming more UNITED each game. God it felt good being a Leeds fan & at times we even forgot about Bates & Wise :D
My next trip was to probably one of the worst grounds I've done this was the athletic stadium known as the Withdean home to Brighton what a proverbial &*$* hole. A home game to Millwall followed seeing us come out on top 4-2. I missed the next 2 away games at Carlisle & Bournemouth but went to Cheltenham where we dominated the game & must have had 20+ attempts at goal but still got beat 1-0. Our next game was a home game against local rivals Huddersfield where we played our best football to date winning 4-0.
The next game was away to Walsall where I managed to obtain 10 tickets from a London based fan & agreed to meet him at a local rugby club to pick them up & give him the money I owed him. I told everyone to stay on the coach whilst I picked up the tickets but the coach emptied bar 5 as another drink was on the cards. The coach driver took the 5 to the ground in a 49 seater. The police approached the driver & asked where the other passengers were to which he told them. Police cars were dispatched unbeknown to us to the rugby club & we left the club & started walking to the ground chanting & singing the police went to action & nicked one of our lads. Our lads turned nasty & another 7 arrests were made before we arrived at the ground. I saw little of the game as I protested against the arrests. The chief copper was a arrogant buggas but said once the game was over the lads would be released. They weren't they were all charged & by the time everything was done we arrived back in Nottingham at 23:00, though we did have an off licence stop much to the pleasure of the owner :D

To be continued ;)

So we continue I went to the home game against Bristol Rovers & away to Swansea but then followed a result no one saw coming a 3-1 home defeat to Oldham. Northampton at home followed by my first ever visit to Gresty Road where again we were given 2 stands which we duly filled which I'm sure put a huge smile on Crewes chairman. This was without doubt one of my favourite away days of the season where the beer flowed & a good time was had by all :D Another home defeat followed as we lost 1-0 to Doncaster Rovers. Southend away was next where we had to wait on the outskirts of the town to await a police escort which was the norm. When we arrived at Roots Hall you imagine the feelings as all the pubs were shut
Yet another home defeat followed this time to Tranmere, Northampton away was my next journey where we played out a dour 1-1 draw. Next up Forest at home & as we waited for our coach several Forest coaches went past us hurling abuse at us, I think they would like to have stopped but they didn't :D
Crewe, Bournemouth & Cheltenham were our & mine next fixtures the glamour clubs just kept coming along  a trip to Port Vale followed where we met up with Scarborough Whites if memory serves me correctly we had a very good attempt at drinking the pub dry ;) the game itself was an enjoyable 3-3 draw. Walsal, Brighton & Doncaster, where we got our own back for the home defeat with a 1-0 win. London was the next port of call & around 15 of us left Nottingham station bound for the capital. Another team where we were given 2 stands & a 2-0 win followed which we enjoyed as well as a rare Paul Huntingdon goal. 4 wins out of 5 saw us claim a 2 legged game against Carlisle I took the day off & met up with a load of lads in the city before a packed coach travelled up to Leeds but coming back I still remember the disbelief as we lost 2-1. 3 days later & another day a mini bus travelled from Notts to Cumbria in hope we could still claim a place at Wembley. What ensued was one of the best atmospheres at an away game for many years & young Johnny Howson sent the away fans wild with a brace of goals putting through on aggregate 3-2.
I missed the final at Wembley against Doncaster Rovers as I was on holiday but from what I've heard the team just didn't turn up that day. Why pick this season ? Well it was special because as I said earlier the whole fan base was UNITED & it really was us against everybody. So many great away days, younger fans standing on terracing for the first time. Ticking new grounds off & watching home not looking at the game but instead watching the Leeds fans in awe as we sang loud & proud. Yes this was a special time to be a Leeds fan & a season where I again travelled the country wearing my colours with pride.
