Had news recently, from my daughter in Australia, that we are to become grandparents for the first time in July

Only two weeks to go now, had a zoom call with the daughter today and, not for the first time, it really hit home how far we are away from each other, not to mention the grandchild when he/she arrives.

Going to be a tough one this, especially given the travel restrictions with Covid.

Yeah you'll be chomping at the bit to get over mate. Small consolation but imagine it was even just 25 years ago, snail mail photos and listening on a crackly phone line to he/she gurgling away.

I agree Davy.

Reminded me of when my sister emigrated to Canada in 1975. The only contact was by expensive and crackly phone calls or air mail letters that took a week to arrive.

Thanks guys, we’ve been on cloud nine all day .

Sadly we won’t see the little fella for a number of years, but we balance that with the great life they have over there and the beautiful new home they have just moved into complete with swimming pool etc. It’s enough for us to see him over zoom or whatever for now, obviously not the same but as I say the trade off is worth it.
