So much baggage that comes with him that he's never been able to settle anywhere and gets shifted almost as soon as he arrives. Hopefully it is just a rumour and will come to nothing.

This is one rumour that’s gaining lots of momentum. Didn’t he play for us during our League 1 days ?

Yep. He was one of the players that Warnock (I think) just kept playing out of position and couldn't get a tune out of. I don't see him as a Bielsa player at all so seems very unlikely to me. Technically decent but not smart enough to ever really be very good - simply wouldn't work in a rigid Bielsa setup, even if on paper he's the AM we could do with.

Not sure about settle he's only had two clubs (Everton & Chelsea) in 10 years at senior level.
Yes he was loaned to us and Sheff Wed when a teenager for a very short period.
Moved to Chelsea in 2018 then was surplus last season so loaned to Villa. Been surplus at Chelsea doesn't mean a lot given their squad.

Maybe he is just a foil, for other targets.

He is a player who drifts out of games for long periods. He can be brilliant at times but those times are few and far between, and getting fewer as he gets older. He is definitely not a Bielsa type player. You think you are playing with 10 men, then, suddenly, he gets the ball and you remember that he is playing. Sums him up. He needs to score a couple of goals per game to justify playing him. A 'no' for me, I'm out.
