About this book
Football and Gangsters : how organised crime controls the beautiful game
Journalist Graham Johnson lifts the lid on some of the stories involving household names in football, and their run-ins with organised crime. From blackmailing plots, to armed robberies, players such as Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler, and Wayne Rooney have all found themselves mixed up with the wrong people.
Two Leeds United chapters: Leeds United: Cutting costs by drugging players? Details the almost comical plot Simon Morris was implicated in to drug Michael Duberry and Peter Reid, as well as exploring the possibility of having Gary Kelly's legs broken to get the insurance money. Rio Ferdinand: Rude boys Just months after the Bowyer Woodgate saga, Duberry and Ferdinand were very nearly found guilty of a sexual assult in Leeds city centre, and were mixing with some very dubious characters indeed.
Not the best written book, but some interesting stories based on Johnson's investigative reporting for the Mirror.
