About this book
Herbert Chapman on Football
Published 1934. Very rare pre-war football book.
Herbert Chapman was the first of the modern-style football managers. He managed Leeds City from 1912-1918. During the 1920s and '30s, as manager of Huddersfield Town and Arsenal, he transformed the manager's role from powerless servant of the chairman and board to autocrat.
This is a collection of his writings on football from his column in the Sunday Express published shortly after his death in 1934. Features autobiographical details of his management days of Leeds City, Huddersfield Town, and Arsenal, as well as his early playing career.
Note: A facsimile edition was published by Robery Blatchford Publishing, York, 2007. The back tells us: 'This is a book that no footballer and no spectator can afford to be without'! New introduction by Robert Blatchford. Softback, 178 pages with a couple of photos. See the second picture. This edition is available direct from the publisher.
