Football Unites, Racism Divides
Football Unites, Racism Divides resources & information work has underpinned the project’s educational work since 1997, when thier resource library was first opened. Since then, the number of items in the library has dramatically increased whilst at the same time the project has expanded the service into other areas, such as thier website and learning support.
The work of the centre includes a library, learning resource centre, enquiry service, exhibitions and a website. They aim to tackle racism by increasing the availability of relevant and user-friendly anti-racist resources coupled with ideas about how they can be used.
The collection of nearly 1000 resources includes everything from biographies of successful black sports stars, to research into the absence of Asian professional footballers in the UK, to guidance for workers with asylum seekers and refugees. They also have children’s fiction and non-fiction, and feature films and documentaries with an anti-racist theme on video and DVD.
Their librarian can answer specific enquiries sent by letter, phone or email, and can send out tailored information packs. Thier website also features a number of resources available for direct download in the online resources section. Users can also subscribe to an email list to be kept informed of news and events, or discuss issues with other users of the website.
