Gerry Henry's career was sadly blighted by World War 2 - less than 50 of the
200+ games he played for Leeds were "official" - non-war - games, so his
tally of 99 goals in 233 games does not put him as high up the ranking lists
as the plain numbers would suggest. He was an inside forward who could really
bang them in, and he did well at Bradford after leaving Leeds. He was briefly
player-manager at Halifax. He died in 1979.
Wiljoy says: I had been to E R to see Leeds v Hull in 1945,Gerry
had played a blinder for Leeds. On my way home late Saturday night I
was sitting next to Gerry on a bus to Wakefield, reading my "Sports
Echo" Gerry must have seen the write up he had received, and he had
been unable to buy a newspaper for himself in Leeds,so he offered me 1
shilling for the paper, Which I gladly accepted
