Much travelled midfielder whose brief spell at Leeds might have
resulted in a transfer - but for the fact that Leeds were in Division
Two and had no money. Best known for his long spell at Maine Road, he
had made his name at Brighton in the early 1980s, but never did enough
to build on the reputation and skills that had seen him make his debut
for Morton while still 16 and pick up a U-21 cap for Scotland against
Wales in 1978.
In October 2002 he was appointed manager of Exeter City.
Jim Gern says: I met neil in a shop and he licked my face.
Julie Philpott says: Met Neil McNab and his group of would-be
golfers in the Algarve, Portugal, middle of June 2002. He told me his
name, but as I am no footie fan, it didn't click. He said he was a
coached young footballers but not that he had played in the big
league. He was a very nice family man with a great sense of humour,
very kind and thoughtful and got on well with everyone he came in to
contact with. Say a big hello to Neil from Julie, Hilary, Sue,
Jeanette, Michelle, Alison and Kath x
jim long says: good player for the ton.... All leeds fans should
support the ton this season.....
Archie Petrie says: Played alongside Neil in the Youth team at
Morton when he was 13 and just a wee laddie! He was some player then
and Bobby Collins, another ex LUFC great, took him under his wing and
taught him a few tricks! Neil was always going to make the big time
and I'm surprised he didn't play for Scotland more often - perhaps he
was 'too workmanlike' on the park rather than flashy. Boy could
Scotland do with a player such as him now! I now live in Sydney and
haven't seen Neil for years - 30years in fact. So if anyone comes
across him tell him his old friend Archie Petrie was asking very
kindly for him! I see he's been given the coaches job at Exeter today
- should help him up the ladder of management success!
Kenny Osborne says: Neil, Good to read your profile,we were all
discussing your time at Morton, and the rest of your career in
England.
Margaret McNab says: My memories of growing up with my brother,
Neil (who is 8 years older than me) are of being in airports, awaiting
his arrival/Neil going out training and me trying to do keepy-up with
the ball more than him which was impossible! Neil was at Spurs at the
time and watching him play was very exciting!! Neil has always been
very determined and never given up. A lovely family guy, who's very
proud and with a wonderful sense of humour and of course a great
brother...
Ged Tarpey says: Neil was my Youth Team coach at Man City and he
was quality, the man has real passion and desire to win and some of
his tackles in training were X rated. Top man though, best coach I
ever had, I owe a lot to him
Jill McNab says: i know neil mcnab i was married to his young
brother paul mcnab
