A compact striker who did well in non-league football before
signing for Leeds - and his record of 6 goals in 9 games looks good
enough for him to have been retained. As it was he was allowed to
leave and scored a hatful of goals for a variety of clubs before
moving to QPR just before the outbreak of war. He had a spell in
management with that club after the war, but was replaced after 6
years by Jack Taylor - who would go on to be an unsuccessful boss at
Elland Road.
Anonymous says: i met dave mangnall in a pub. he was mad.
Jim Mangnall says: Was interested in your page on Dave Mangnall who
was my father. I came out to NZL in 1961, just a year before he
died. However am coming back to the UK in August this year to attend a
RAF reunion. I still have plenty of memrobilia of my Dad and intend
donating some of this to the Millwall FC museum as he was the Captain
there when they beat Man City to get into the semi final of the FA
Cup. They were the first 3rd Div side to achieve that feat. Still have
a silver cup that he won whilst at Leeds United. Incidentally, my
Mother is still alive and is 93. She is also in NZL.
Geoffrey Mangnall says: Dave Mangnall was my uncle as my dad Walter
Mangnall was his brother & my dad often talked about him and his
passion for football. My father passed away in 1987 & to my
knowledge there's not many of us left. But so long as we are still
around his name will go on. As i have told my son Aaron Mangnall all
about his grandad's brother. Jim i have never met you but I am glad
that you are well & that your mum is too.
Brenda Mangnall (nee varley) says: I was most interested to see
this info about a Mangnall. I married a Mangnall in 1971 and for the
last 5 yrs have been researching my husbands family. There are
loads!!! of mangnalls still about mostly in USA. Could the relatives
of Jim please email me with any info on their line. My husbands line
originated in Westhoughton, Lancashire which is not that far from
Wigan. I am currently building a Web-site and hope to publish it on
the web soon so keep watching any mangnalls out there. Web-site name is
www.Bremick.mangnall.mysite.freeserve.com/
Adrian Birks says: My grandfather, Ken Burditt, played as a forward
with Dave Mangnall at Millwall '36-'38 & often told me stories
about their times together. Apparently they made quite a duo. I also
have lots of photo's etc
