Jabba's Comments |
John Short came through the Leeds junior setup just before the
start of World War 2, and did well for Leeds in the wartime leagues,
when he also guested with Newcastle and Hartlepool. A regular in the
disastrous post-war season, he moved down to Millwall and enjoyed a
long career at The Den, moving into the coaching side at the end of
his playing days. He also coached at Huddersfield, Sheffield United
and Notts County before taking up the role of physio with a variety of
clubs. He died in 1986.
Chris Dempsey says: He was great guy who would do anything to help
anyone out and was dedicated to the sport he loved so much. My aunt
tells me that John played inside right and centre forward for
Leeds. Then moved to right half when he played for Millwall, where he
did his F.A.Coaches and physios courses. He coached boys and youth
clubs and schools while in the South of England. At Sheffield he was
assistant to John Harris and Youth Team Manager. The year I left the
U.K.for Aus. 1953 he got me a ticket for the cup final Blackpool V
Bolton what a game Mathews really turned it on 4-3 to Blackpool I
still have that ticket he gave me.
