Jabba's Comments

Capped by Scotland just the once, Tom Townsley was a versatile defender who formed a key part of the Leeds side in the late 1920s. He started out as a centre-half but spent the latter part of his career at Leeds partnered with Bill Menzies at full-back. He returned to Scotland with Falkirk and continued playing until he was 35. He moved into management with Peterhead just before the war, enjoying a long spell at the helm.

David Frank Townsley says: Could he be a distant reletive of mine?

Robin Townsley Arcus says: In case anyone would still be interested in this sort of thing, my brother is Tom Townsley. However, he is 45 and living in Syracuse , NY. He is a harmonic player and English professor.

George Ritchie says: I saw Tom Townsley play in a veterans match for Peterhead againsBuchan rivals Fraserburgh in 1947. Tom had a tobaconist shop in Queen Street Peterhead and later on worked as greenkeeper at the local golf course He continued to watch and support Peterhead FC right up to his death Tom is featured on the front page of a book on Peterhead FC "Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory" available from the Buchan Observer Peterhead or e-mailing ronheads _at_ hotmail.com
